You're such an inspiration for the ways
That I'll never ever choose to be Oh so many ways for me to show you How the savior has abandoned you Fuck your God Your Lord, your Christ He did this Took all you had and Left you this way Still you pray, you never stray Never taste of the fruit You never thought to question why It's not like you killed someone It's not like you drove a hateful spear into his side Praise the one who left you Broken down and paralyzed He did it all for you He did it all for you Oh so many ways for me to show you How your dogma has abandoned you Pray to your Christ, to your god Never taste of the fruit Never stray, never break Never---choke on a lie Even though he's the one who did this to you You never thought to question why Not like you killed someone It's Not like you drove a spiteful spear into his side Talk to Jesus Christ As if he knows the reasons why He did it all for you Did it all for you He did it all for you |

11 posts | Wonderful how APC can stimulate so much discussion, thank you all for your insightful comments. My favorite part about this song... its a waltz. Ive been telling fellow musicians for forty years that you can write kick ass rock songs in 3/4 time, proven again, yet another great example. |

6 posts | I love this song, but I'm not one of these idiots who fives everything on a song they like. The song isn't perfect, it has it's flaws. My favourite part is easily the lyrics, though. If there is a God (and I don't believe for a moment that there is) fuck him, fuck Jesus, and most of all, fuck all the fuckers trying to make everyone else conform to their religious views.
I swear a lot. It's a thing. Anyway, great song, highly recommended. |

1 posts | Man this song is so intense, i like it a lot but a bit confused about the lyrics. Biblically we are supose to question everything, except God, Deuteronomy 6:16 look it up.
the whole idea of faith is leaping before you look, the difference with Christianity is we have been giving the bible (not written by men, Holy Men Moved on my the Holy Spirit, big difference) so in some ways all faith, no matter what it is in, can be called blind. C.S. lewis said i have faith in God like i have faith in the sun, not because i see the sun but by it i see everything else. i think that can sum up the definition of a Godly faith. i really liked what some of the people said on some of the early reviews, this isn't a stab at GOD but at your god. we can idolize anything and make it like a god. but because of the strong biblical referencing in the songs lyrics he may be venting some anger hes got towards Christ. that doesn't make him bad, we are human and trying to be anything else is pointless. |

82 posts | First, my opinion of the song. It's wonderful. Maynard always finds a way to say exactly what I'm thinking or feeling. This song is very awesome and thought-provoking.
Now, this song can easily be about Maynard's mother, but I doubt that it would be that specific. When he wrote the song, he probably meant it to be more broad in terms of meaning. In other words, not just "this is a song about my mother", but a "this is the song that I wrote out of the things that happened with my mother, and this is what I'm trying to say in general". In the aMOTIVE DVD, he talks about his mother being strong in faith, and neighbors and local friends would be there for her, then turn around and talk behind her back. This is where the 'blind faith' factor comes in. People parading around to be oh-so-holy are usually the meanest, most judgemental people. I think that is what he was trying to say. I also want to point out that when he says "Fuck your God", he doesn't mean The God. He means your God. Everyone has a different idea of what good and acceptable behavior under God should be. The people who sprout hypocritical "you're not holy enough so you're burning in hell" kind of ideas and claim that their words are backed by their "forgiving" and "ever-loving" God (i.e. homophobic over-zealous christians) are the kind of people I think Maynard was addressing. snooksML84, get over yourself. You think people honestly care? You are very naive to say the things you say. Not everyone believes in the same things. You are personifying the very idea that the song is trying to express. 49Adrenailine, I don't think Maynard was "judging" his mother. Like I've said, the song is most likely a general idea than a condemnation for his own mom. And please cut the crap about going to read scriptures. Because you stated you weren't being judgemental, yet you just said what Maynard shouldn't do. I'm sorry if I'm being harsh. I just felt like I needed to say something. Anyway, that's my two cents. Wonderful song. |

2 posts | Ok, let me set this straight for some people, first off. In Christianity Heaven is the place you would LOVE to go to and cant wait. But, it says that if you take your own life before you are supposed to go, then you go to Hell. This is why I think Maynards mom "Judith" kept following Jesus. People all the time ask me "well if your Lord is so great why does he let little kids die and suffer" i look at it like they are the lucky ones, this Earth sucks and i would gladly go to Heaven at any chance and meet the man who saved me. There is no medical reason as to why im still alive, i have cheated death so many times that i believe in God's plan. So theres where i stand. And Maynard should not judge his mother like that. But the reason i didnt sit here and criticise him was because of this Matthew 7:1-5 read it. |

3 posts | Think about the line "Fuck your God" - Maynard's not saying fuck God... Just the fact that we all have different kinds that we believe are the correct ones to believe in, and that we put all our faith into something we've built up in our minds. Really, there's only one God, and who's to say it's a being of any kind?
Yeeeeeaaaahhhhhhh. |

5 posts | i have a friend who really likes this song and he says that the song is about hypocrites and he said its freedom of speech, but i say.....THIS SONG IS HOSTILE TOWARDS GOD AND NO MATTER HOW MUCH YOU TRY TO RATIONALIZE IT BY SAYING ITS JUST A SONG, IT IS VERY CLEARLY BLASPHEMING GOD....AND THATS THE TRUTH. GOD IS AWESOME. |

1 posts | ok..NEWAYYYYS...you guys are all wrong about the meaning...if you know NETHING about maynard, well this song is about his mother. she was paralyzed for aproximately 27 years which equals out to 10,000 days (therefore the title of the new tool cd)
maynards mother was EXTREMELY religious and loyal to God but maynard is trying to say "look what he did to you, he left you paralyzed and broken". yet she still kept faith all those 27 years. just look at these lyrics "Oh so many ways for me to show you How your dogma has abandoned you Pray to your Christ, to your god Never taste of the fruit Never stray, never break Never---choke on a lie Even though he's the one who did this to you You never thought to question why" and then TRY to tell me im wrong...i know im not cause if you look at the new tool songs "wings for marie PT1" and "10,000 days Pt 2" he is obviously talking about his mother and the fact that she was so faithful through her time of pain therefore she should be greeted at heavens gates. |

5 posts | The underlying principles of this song are meant to challenge the hypocrisy of Christianity, that being: Christians go through the same sh!t as everyone else does, yet think they feel better because a "god" is there for them. And even if this is true, it's that "god" that put them here on Earth in that position in the first place. Maynard is questioning why these people can't see past that. |

1 posts | The sound of the song is great. However, the lyrics dont appeal to me.
I believe that the song does have a religious opinion to it. Considering, he's mentioning "Jesus Christ", "God". He wouldnt need to mention them otherwise. He's questioning Christianity. He's questioning why people follow the religion. It's not like you killed someone It's not like you drove a hateful spear into his side Praise the one who left you Broken down and paralyzed Of course God is going to let bad things happen to people. Even Christians. Everyone. Jesus Christ was the only perfect innocent man who walked the earth. His execution was not even justified...and not at all pleasant. If this can happen to a perfect innocent man Jesus Christ...I think my sinful self should accept what God plans for me, good or bad, and stop complaining about how perfect my life should be. |

20 posts | Did some reasearch and i think i found the reason why he wrote this song. Turns out his mother was very ill, and she prayed to stay alive, yet she died This song keeps getting better |

20 posts | This was the first APC song i really liked.. Its good coz i feel it speaks the truth that atleast i dont think of normaly. I'd have to say its about being blindly reigious and thinking that everything that happens is a part of god's big plan... It's like eventhough something horrible has happend and you think that God is behind it all you still pray and hope for better times
Probably their best song |

10 posts | i think it's interesting that people are saying that the song is about people being "blindly religious", meaning they don't have a true faith or whatever. i think thats a bit backwards, as in, the people who are the most religious would be the blind ones. perhaps if u read the lyrics again and thought about it from a different perspective. the basic underlying principle in the song, i believe, is any kind of salvation or peace or whatever one finds in god and religion is found is in oneself, and there therefore is no need for religion. hence, someone who's dedicated their life or lots of their time to religion would be the blindest of all, because afterall they are the ones who "never thought to question why"
good song |

289 posts | I will agree with everyone that this a sick ass song and I love it-but I also think its a bit overrated compared to the rest of the album.
If I say to anyone pretty much in my state "oh do u like a perfect circle", I will get 1 of 2 responses. The first is, "who the hell is a perfect circle??" or "Yeah! Judith is awesome!". But that probably only because not many people in Tassie have the album/s. Good song though. |

21 posts | i luv this song... it was the first apc song i ever heard...
umm people this song is about his deceased mother who was deeply religious... he's saying how her god didnt save her and abandoned her and how she never thought to question her religion and shit.... anyway.... i luv this song coz its so anti blind religion.... and i noe quite a few people who are blindly religious... i think its also kinda anti society... and im kinda like that..... so yeah... "never thought to question y, its not like u killed sum1, its not like u drove a hateful spear into his side, praise the one who left u broken down and paralysed, he did it all for u..." "even though he's the one who did this to u..." |
