His mother, had killed his father, King Agamemnon and married another man, Aegisthus, when he was off fighting in the Trojan War. He learned that he had to avenge his father's death, but then it meant killing his mother. This song is about his conflict between doing what is right and what is wrong. Maynard is a god.

Explains some points in the lyrics, if it's really true that it's related with the myth. APC has this mystical thing in their music, hard to explain. I't took time before I started to like the band but now I like them really much.

I knew it had to do something with the connection between mother and child, and most of the lyrics I had figured out, but I finally read the Orestes story and the missing pieces fit. I adore this song and A Perfect Circle. Maynard is a genius.

Then i have just now listened to the normal version and i think it is more something i would just listen to when i want to clear my mind and be taken away somewhere. I still stand, beautiful vioce, beautiful music - almost all of apc's stuff. Nothing like i have ever heard before

30 posts	Didnt know about the greek mythology part of it. Thats interesting. Because when he says"Gotta cut away, clear away Snip away and sever this Umbilical residue that's Keeping me from killing you" its talking about him as an unborn baby trying to kill his mother. Also when he says "a perfect circle" im thinking that a perfect circle might be a womb which might be what the bands name stands for. Im not sure what he means when he says metaphor for a missing moment tho...

1 posts	rhythm melody instruments lyrics vocal just my 2 cents... i don't think it's necessarily about him wanting to kill his mother as an unborn child. i mean i'm not maynard so i really have no clue. What I'm getting from it, and the Greek mythology, is that it's about a man breaking away from his mother. You feel connected to your mother (the umbilical cord is a metaphor) for the first years of your life, and once you realize they're not perfect, or in the case of Orestes, they are murderers, you have to separate yourself from them and become your own person. Or again in Orestes' case, you have to cut yourself off from them and your belief that they are perfect in order to kill them. I'm sure there's a hell of a lot more to it than that. I would love to know what the "metaphor for a missing moment" means.
