| Song lyrics |
Say hello to the rug's topography
It holds quite a lot of interest with your face down on it
Say hello to the shrinking in your head
You can't see it but you know its there so don't neglect it
I'm taking her home with me all dressed in white
She's got everything I need, pharmacy keys
She's falling hard for me, I can see it in her eyes
She acts just like a nurse with all the other guys
Say hello to all the apples on the ground
They were once in your eyes but you sneezed them out while sleeping
Say hello to everything you've left behind
It's even more a part of your life now that you can't touch it
I'm taking her home with me all dressed in white
She's got everything I need, some pills in a little cup
She's falling hard for me, I can see it in her eyes
She acts just like a nurse with all the other guys
She’s got everything I need, pharmacy keys
She acts just like a nurse with all the other guys
Say hello to the rugs topography...

This song certainly steps outside the boundaries of what we think of when we think of music by popular/mainstream bands. It is beautiful musically and very challenging lyrically (not to be confused with vocally). I don't know if we're supposed to take the lyrics literally or metaphorically... if literally then it must have been interesting to step into the role of what seems to be a mental patient in love with his nurse. If metaphorically, then it is very open to interpretation. | 10-11-2004 13:11 rock67angel |

This song is amazing. I don't know how anyone could not like it.
I was shocked to learn it was a cover song... It fits amazingly with the rest of the album-- as if Maynard wrote it to fit specifically in the slot it filled.
The lyrics are entirely metaphorical, I'd say.
I'd share my interpretation, but it's rather cheesy.

I love this song. I think it's beautiful. Somehow, whevever I'm listening to it, and I close my eyes, I think of bright white lights, like the ones in the hospitals. The music also makes me think of the word 'milky'...
On the interpretation of the song, I have two views.
The literal one: The song is about a mental patient that falls in love with his caring nurse.
The metaphorical one: The song is about a white pill of some sort.
I'm taking her home with me, all dressed in white
She's got everything I need, pharmacy keys
The pill is refered to as 'she', or 'her'.
Say hello to the rug's topography
It holds quite alot of interest with your face down on it
The rug's topography...It seems like someone passed out from an overdose.
Just look at the rest of the lyrics. It just seems like he's talking a pill. But you don't have to listen to blabber...
Anyways, this song is relaxing - and Maynard's voice is satisfyingly excellent. I was also surprised to hear this was a cover...It just seems so APC (in a weird sort of way xD).
Gotta love it. | 02-02-2005 06:45 DrStrangeLove | 4 posts

| I love the sound of this song. Altogether, it just sounds good, you know?
I've never been good with poetry and all that so I'm still trying to decipher the lyrics to what I think they mean but all in all, I think it's a great song. | 14-01-2008 17:44 nickw66 | 3 posts
