Song lyrics
(Don Goodman - Becky Hobbs)

(Spoken)
I was walking home from school on a cold winter day
Took a shortcut through the woods, and I lost my way
It was getting late, and I was scared and alone
But then a kind old man took my hand and led me home

(Sang)
Mama couldn't see him,
Oh, but he was standing there
And I knew in my heart,
He was the answer to my prayers.

Chorus:
Oh, I believe there are angels among us
Sent down to us from somewhere up above
They come to you and me in our darkest hours
To show us how to live, to teach us how to give
To guide us with the light of love.

When life held troubled times,
And had me down on my knees
There's always been someone
To come along and comfort me

A kind word from a stranger, to lend a helping hand
A phone call from a friend, just to say I understand
And ain't it kind of funny at the dark end of the road
That someone lights the way with just a single ray of hope.

Chorus:
Oh, I believe there are angels among us
Sent down to us from somewhere up above
They come to you and me in our darkest hours
To show us how to live, to teach us how to give
To guide us with the light of love.

They wear so many faces,
Show up in the strangest places
To grace us with their mercy,
In our time of need.

Chorus:
Oh, I believe there are angels among us
Sent down to us from somewhere up above
They come to you and me in our darkest hours
To show us how to live, to teach us how to give
To guide us with the light of love.

To guide us with a light of love...

so, to all you people who want this played on the radio, I disagree there. my friend Shawn had this played at his funerl (RIP april 13). it's a good song, but it holds a lot of meaning in it's words for some people. I don't think it's a real "christamassy song"

Everyone thinks that this is a Christmas song, but I find it to be very heartbreaking. This was played at my friend Ashley's funeral on February 16, 2007. It makes me cry just about every time I hear it because I still can't believe she is gone. Ashley is and always will be an "angel among us". I miss you. Rest in peace, Ashley Marie Harder.

This is the best Alabama song ever, I am a huge fan of Alabama, I saw them all the time when they came to Milwaukee. This song hits a spot in my heart for my second father Paul Edward Martin, He had just died when this song came out. I know hes up there now and knows this song is his from his daughters.
