Song lyrics
(Jim Moose Brown - Don Rollins)
Alan Jackson & Jimmy Buffett

That sun is hot and that ol' clock is movin' slow
And so am I
The workday passes like molasses in wintertime
But it's July
I'm getting paid by the hour
And older by the minute
My boss just pushed me over the limit
I'd like to call him something
I think I'll just call it a day.

Chorus:
(And) pour me somethin' tall and strong
Make it a Hurricane before I go insane
It's only half past twelve but I don't care
(AJ: he don't care, and I don't care)
It's five o'clock somewhere.

--- Instrumental ---

Well, this lunch break is gonna take all afternoon
And half the night
Tomorrow morning I know there'll be hell to pay
Hey, but that's alright
I ain't had a day off now in over a year
My Jamaican vacation's gonna start right here
If the phone's for me you can tell 'em
I just sailed away.

Chorus:
(And) pour me something tall and strong
Make it a Hurricane before I go insane
It's only half past twelve but I don't care
(AJ: he don't care, and I don't care)
It's five o'clock somewhere.

--- Instrumental ---

I could pay off my tab, pour myself in a cab
And be back to work before two
At a moment like this I can't help but wonder
What would Jimmy Buffett do?

(enter Jimmy Buffett)

J.B.''Funny you should ask, Alan.''
''I'd say.''

Pour me something tall and strong
Make it a Hurricane before I go insane
It's only half past twelve but I don't care

Pour me something tall and strong
Make it a Hurricane before I go insane
It's only half past twelve but I don't care (he don't care)
And I don't care
It's five o'clock somewhere

--- Instrumental with ad libs. below ---

J.B. What time zone am I on?
      What country am I in?
A.J. It don't matter it's five o'clock somewhere
J.B. It's always on five in Margaritaville come to think of it
A.J. I heard that
J.B. You've been there haven't you?
A.J. Yes sir
J.B. I've seen your boat there
A.J. I've been to Margaritaville a few times
J.B. Alright well, that's good
A.J. Stumbled my way back
J.B. Okay, we just want to make sure you can keep it
      Between the navigational beacons
A.J. Between the buoys, I got it
J.B. Alright well, it's five o'clock let's go somewhere
A.J. I'm ready to crank it up
J.B. Let's get out 'a here
A.J. I'm gone...

I wouldn't mind something tall and strong right now, actually. lol. I made pretty good friends with tequila the other night.

Anyway, YES, I LOVE this song, and no I'm not a big drinker, I made a mistake a couple of times by drinking underage. Stupid me. But I still love the song, AJ is so much fun.

I'm also a country fan but not a huge one... well..
maybe a little but i love country music that I could dance to cuz I totally LOVE DANCING!!!! It's my favorite thing to do and country is one of my favorite types of music... most of my friends think country's stupid but I give 'em some attitude and then they cool down a bit... but only one friend of mine loves country (just like me! ) and we love to dance to country! I have so much songs I like from Alan Jackson, he's a great singer. So pour me something tall and strong, make it a hurricane before I go insane...lol yah!

I could listen to country 24/7 cuz it's just the type of music i love to listen to when i relax or something or do homework... it helps sometimes... hee hee

So, I'm just curious...has it ever occurred to anybody that if it's "half past twelve" it is not actually five o'clock anywhere? Time zones are in increments of one hour...not half hours. So yeah...it's not five o'clock...anywhere.
