ive been a panic at the disco fan since august 2006 and i finally got the chance to see them on March 15th 08.
A fever you can't sweat out has been my most played album ever and i was really looking forward to the new album.
When they released nine in the afternoon I was seriously excited and i was overjoyed. I loved it.
But when I bought Pretty.Odd. the second the shop opened, i thought, oh no. this doesnt sound like the old panic at the disco.
the first 2 songs were really good and i was set for a truely amazing album, afterall they'd kept us waiting for a while.
Mad as Rabbits and Shes a handsome women are the only half decent new songs on the album.
Theres no catchy songs like Time to Dance and Camisado.
sorry panic, i think you're trying to be The Beatles. I really don't like this album.

I love Panic At The Disco's "A Fever You Can't Sweat Out." It's really catchy. I was hoping that their second album would have the same quality. It doesn't.
But it has grown on me like a malignant fungus after only two full listens.
Pretty. Odd. still retains a full texture in most of its songs like A Fever. However, the album has a more organic sound, while Fever has a very...I dunno, meticulously polished sound.
This album lives up to its name. Some of it was pretty. Some of it was just odd. The rest was pretty but odd ("She Had the World", anyone?). The whole thing just makes you feel very mushy. And liable to smile or even crack up at the NICEness of it all. That's one of my problems with Pretty. Odd. actually: there aren't any songs to rock out to. Maybe "Mad as Rabbits" and "She's a Handsome Woman." But not really.
Anyway, I recommend this album. Just don't buy it hoping that it is the same as Panic's first album. You will be disappointed. | 26-03-2008 03:01 rasinbug | 14 posts

I absolutely LOVED fever... I heard that CD January 2006 and just fell hardcore for panic!... The energy and the beat and the vocals absolutely blew me away from first listen and still do the same thing.
Pretty. Odd. I felt really let down on the first couple run throughs just because it didn't give me the same reaction... There isn't alot of energy or beats that make you want to bounce off the walls... It's growing on me though, the melody and his voice and just the type of band they act like on stage they keep the lyrics and music true to their odd sense of style with a complete change in music.
The Beatles reference I couldn't agree more... and I too hope that maybe with the next CD they will go back and try the high energy stuff they were so good at... but I'm really content with this CD... First CD was a party... This CD seems like growing up... they just need some balance that's all | 29-03-2008 00:00 punke10791 | 4 posts

OKAY I CAN NOT DISAGREE THAT SONGS FROM " A Fever You Can't Sweat Out" WERE PURE GENIUS..AND HAD A VERY UPBEAT AND DANCE LIKE EFFECT IN THEIR SONGS BUT THEN THEY DID HAVE SOME SONGS THAT BEGAN SLOW-ISH AND THEN GOT TO THE BEAT WERE SUPER GOOD.....BUT I DO DISAGREE WITH EVRYONE ELSE I LOVE THEIR NEW CD "PRETTY.ODD" BECASUE IT HAS A 1920'S FEEL TO THE MUSIC AND BEAT..MAYBE IT'S NOT THE UP-BEAT BEATS IN ALL OF THEM BUT THEY HAVE AWESOME RYTHYM AND SOUND...SO YOU CAN ALL CRITICIZE ME BUT I DONT REALLY CARE BECAUSE THIS IS MY OPINION ON THE SONGS AND THIS CD
P.S. AND I LOVE THIS CD JUST THE SAME AS I LOVED THEIR LAST | 01-04-2008 00:18 singmeanythingx |

| are all of you guys [or, most of you guys] saying that the Beatles SUCK by any chance? what's wrong with them? someone please tell me before i lose it.
the Beatles ROCK.
they're freaking classics.
and if Panic was influenced by their style, then THAT'S GREAT!!! who do you all know that is trying to bring back the old rock? hmm? i'd like to know. everyone sounds the same. i think it's great that they're trying to experiment and stuff. | 02-04-2008 02:05 Momoji | 1 posts
| I'm a huge fan of Panic! At the Disco, and have been for a long time. I was in love with their first ablum, A Fever You Cant Sweat Out, and turned to a lot of their song in bad times and/or when I was faced with problems. One of my best friends even knows them!
And when I heard Nine in the Afternoon, I was alomst in tears I was so happy and excited about their new album. But I have to say, I was crushed when I heard the rest of the ablum.
It was nothing like them and even though I have nothing against the Beatles, I was devastated by how much they sounded like the Beatles.
It may have been mature and calm(And maybe some people like that) but it just wasnt for me. I was ready for a killer beat, deep lyrics, a rhythm I could tap my foot to/run around with, and just something I could blast on my ipod during homework/class( )/in the streets(Or mall) where I could dance public(While people stare at me like I'm crazy since they can't hear the music)/or just plain anywhere at anytime.
Sorry boys, it just wasnt what I so dearly wanted and expected.

| Its starting to grow on me although i can tell that their biggest influence was the beatles.
its okay though, they're growing up, and growing out of that old stuff they had on "A Fever..."
true fans will go with them, and i'm working on it. | 13-07-2008 17:30 NirvAna41 | 28 posts

| yes, i know what you mean when you say that there are no songs like camisado, build god or the others. In this album there are 3 or 4 great songs but the others are so similar, it looks like we're listening to the same song.
In the fisrt album, that never happens. Each song are one song. So perfect, catchy, we can never be tired.
But they couldn't do the same. they got bored, thank god they've changed a bit. it good for them and for us.
The next one will be better.
faith in them ;P

As soon as I heard Nine In The Afternoon, I thought it was going to be another cliche, overplayed song, and horrible album. I wasn't a huge fan of the first released album to be honest, it reminded me of the whole emo I like to cut my wrists, blacken my eyes, and refuse to eat because I want to scene. {Not to offend anyone of course.}
This new album is different, which is odd. Like Fall Out Boy, My Chemical Romance etc, the sound is different. Fall Out Boy went more pop (and turning into Micheal Jackson apparently), My Chemical Romance went more 'Queen-esque'. However, it seems that Panic At The Disco (who finally got rid of that terribly placed exclimation mark - totally gramatically incorrect boys!), has taken a 'new' path. Like most of these so called "emo" bands, they have decided to follow the path of old bands.
I'll be clear - I don't like mainstream music. I prefer the classics (i.e. Beatles and The Doors) which were the originals, and some indie. When watching a video critiqueing show one day, they ripped up the new Panic sound.
All I can say is amen.
No matter how many vynil records they could get their nailpolished hands on, they weren't influenced by the Beatles or the Kinks, they blatently copied and butchered up the sound.
Songs like We're So Starving sound ODDLY familiar (Sgt. Pepper's anyone?) and She Had The World sounds like something Donovan and The Hollies would have made if collaberated, throwing in a little ELO.
Oh and for all you "Beadles" fans, who cannot spell the name, nor have never heard a song outside of Yellow Submarine, go look at Sgt. Pepper's then watch the video for Nine In The Afternoon...what a wierd coincidence.
Come on boys, take some influence, don't steal music. You're ... pathetically famous, you need to keep your nine-year-old emo fans happy (or sad.)
IN ALL TRUTH - I'd rather listen to their change more then Fall Out Boy or My Chemical Romance play on the radio.
Mainstream music is horrible, and now these so called "famous" bands are taking to copying the oldies, the classics, the GOOD stuff? Please stop, don't ruin it.
Sure Panic, go in a direction of indie, or take the classic songs and make them sound classic rock-ish. Don't mix the two generations, it sounds like crap.

Not feeling this one. I loved Fever too much. But props to them for definitely not writing the same record twice. |
