This is one of those songs you can't cover right. Anthony wrote this about how he bought herion from Mexican drug dealers and would shoot it under a bridge. To get the herion, he had to pretend he was engaged to one gang member's sister, which ruined his real relationship. This song is so personal to him, that he nearly didn't tell his bandmates about it. You wouldn't want to share something so personal to anyone either, especially if you were in Anthony's position.
To change the lyrics of a song that means SO much to someone is wrong. All Saints could've picked something else to cover.
