Claude François was born on February 1, 1939 in Ismailia, Egypt. In 1956, the François left Egypt because Nasser nationalised the Suez Canal. Claude married Janet Woollacott on November 5, 1960. His father, Aimé François, died on March 19, 1961. The following year, Claude recorded "Nabout Twist" under the moniker "KOKO".
