Jean-Michel Jarre was born on August 24, 1948 in Lyon, France. Son of the French film composer Maurice Jarre, he grew up studying jazz & classical music. After playing in rock bands, Jean-Michel turned to electro-acoustic music, at the Research Medical Group where he was Pierre Schaeffer's pupil. In 1971, he recorded his first album, that was a failure. He wrote lyrics for French singers : Christophe's "Les Mots Bleus" & Patrick Juvet's "Où Sont Les Femmes".
