Song lyrics
Only two more days until your birthday,
yesterday was mine.
You'll be turning five.
I know what it's like
growing up without your father in your life.

So I pretend I'm doing all I can
and hope someday you'll find it in your heart
to understand why I'm not around
and forgive me for not being in your life.

I remember waiting for you to come.
Remember waiting for you to call.
Remember waiting there to find nothing at all.

Maybe someday you'll really get to know me
not just from letters read to you.
I pray I get the chance to make it up to you.
We've got a lot of catching up to do.

Something is up with this album... If you know anything about the following, please respond:

This song (the Saddest Song) is in the place of a guy talking to/about his son... About how he (the guy) is not a part of the boys life...

On track number... 7 I think, he talks about how their family split apart. In the song about the girl "Denise" he refers to how she's gone...

and in the song Eight of Nine, he talks about his lungs clearing of smoke as he crawls from the wreckage (which of course could be interpreted as metaphorical)...

So his wife/girlfriend is gone somewhere and he never sees his son... What is up with all this stuff? Does it even go together as I put it or am I just being wierd? If it does go together that way, is it real? If so, who's it about? I listened to this cd over and over trying to place all these clues I got from a few of the songs together to see what was going on. This is kind of farfetched and maybe silly, but this is what I was thinking:

He fell in love with this girl, they had a kid. The guy had a drug lab in his basement, it blew up, the house cought on fire. The girl left him (or died) and she (or someone) has custody of the kid...

Problem is, they never say in any of the songs anything about him taking back something he did way wrong, like being involved with drugs or something, so I have no reason to believe hes incredibly guilty for something because knowing the Ataris they'd sing all about being sorry for doing all this bad stuff that caused the wife/girlfriend to leave....

I don't know, but if any of you do, please tell me cuz I've been wondering for a while... It was fun trying to fit together the clues, but now I have and they don't make too much sense, and I'm curious... (as you can probably tell by the fact that I spent 10 minutes typing this giant post)

actually, the song is about him never seeing his daughter...which if im not mistaken, her name is Starla, and her birthday is on January 15 (because there is also another ataris song called 1-15-96)

the song eight of nine, is about, when their tour bus crashed and i think he almost died and it just made him realize things, so i guess he wrote a song about it

if you need anything else explained, just ask me

well im still alittle slightly confused because i am not a fan of the band but i like this song and i can see its about him not seeing his daughter but is he talking about his own father too? or he is just hoping that his daughter will try and keep in touch with him??

yeah, the song is also about how his own father was never really in his life & how he wishes that he was in his daughter's life more
