AboutTim Bergling, known professionally as Avicii (pronounced ə-vee-chee), was a Swedish DJ, remixer, and record producer, born on September 8, 1989 in Stockholm, Sweden and dead on April 20, 2018 in Muscat, Oman. Avicii ranked No. 6 on the Top 100 DJs list by DJ Magazine in 2011.
Avicii's most notable song has been the single "Levels" which was released officially 28 Oct 2011. The song had already been a major hit in the EDM world all through 2011, but after its official release it became a huge mainstream hit, giving Avicii greater notoriety. The song was written by Avicii and Ash Pournouri and contains a vocal sample from the 1963 gospel-inspired "Something's Got a Hold on Me" by Etta James.
On 23 March 2012, Avicii's unsigned single "Last Dance" was previewed on Pete Tong's show on BBC Radio 1. At Ultra Music Festival 2012 he played a teaser of his remix of Ruth-Anne's "All You Need Is Love". Also, Avicii played two new remixes, Madonna's "Girl Gone Wild" titled "Avicii vs Madonna – Girl Gone Wild" (Avicii's UMF Remix) and Avicii vs Lenny Kravitz – Superlove.
Avicii released a new song after reaching two million followers on Facebook. This song, "2 Million" was put out as a free download on his official Soundcloud. He was a featured performer on August 4, 2012 at Lollapalooza in Chicago's Grant Park.
Tim Bergling has announced that he would be retiring in 2016. "I will ... never let go of music – I will continue to speak to my fans through it, but I've decided this 2016 run will be my last tour and last shows,"
He passed away in Oman on April 20, 2018.
