AboutBarbara Mandrell (born December 25, 1948) is an American country singer, songwriter, actress, and musician who is the most talented artist to perform in this genre in music. Born in Houston, Texas, Barbara learned to read music and play musical instruments like the accordion in her early years. Her entire family later moved to Oceanside, California. Barbara Mandrell along with her sisters Louise and Irlene formed the Mandrell Family Band along with their parents Irby and Mary. She first made her television debut on Five Star Jubilee on NBC in 1961. Barbara then performed on the radio-tv series Town Hall Party in Los Angeles. In 1969, Barbara Mandrell became a country singer and moved to Nashville, Tennessee. She was signed to Columbia Records by producer Billy Sherrill. She recorded her first hit, "I've Been Loving You Too Long (To Stop Now) which was a cover of Otis Redding's 1965 hit single. The following years, Barbara Mandrell recorded a number of hit singles, "Midnight Oil", "Standing Room Only", "If Loving You Is Wrong (I Don't Want To Be Right)", "Sleeping Single In A Double Bed" and numerous hit singles through the 1970's and 1980's. She has won numerous awards including two Grammy Awards, four ACM awards, and four CMA awards.
Barbara Mandrell along with her sisters Louise and Irlene starred in their hit TV series, Barbara Mandrell and the Mandrell Sisters which premiered on NBC in 1980 and cancelled in 1982. She performed on her stage show, "The Lady Is A Champ" in Las Vegas the following year. Barbara Mandrell along with two of her three children were in a serious car accident on September 11, 1984. She suffered major injuries along with a severe concussion. Several months later, she returned to recording and performing onstage. Barbara Mandrell is a longtime member of the Grand Ole Opry since 1972. She performed her final concert on October 23, 1997 and has retired. She is currently married to her longtime husband Ken Dudney and has three children, Matthew, Jamie and Nathaniel.
