 One third of the Beastie Boys died on Friday (May 4) at 47 years old, of cancer.Known under the nickname MCA, Adam Yauch fought against the illness. For more than 3 years, he had salivary gland cancer. His state of health became worse these months & so, he didn't participate to the introduction of Beastie Boys to the "Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame" in April. France's NTM started in 1988, Germany's Die Fantastischen Vier started in 1989 but the United States' Beastie Boys started in... 1979 ! According to the magazine "Rolling Stone", Michael Diamond aka "Mike D", Adam Yauch aka "MCA" & Adam Horowitz aka "Ad-Rock" have been considered as "pioneers of American hip-hop". The punk-influenced band started in 1981 but success came with Licensed To Ill in 1986. The album has been lauded by critics & got an international success. The members were known for their eclectism, their attitude while facing journalists, their obscure cultural references, their kitsch lyrics & in a general way, their originality. It was one of the oldest hip-hop bands that were still active today. Many Beastie Boys songs appeared in charts in the 80's & in the 90's, like "Fight For Your Right (To Party)", "No Sleep Till Brooklyn" & "Sabotage".
