| Song lyrics |
With one or two I get used to the room.
We go slow when we first make our moves.
But five or six bring you out to the car.
Number nine with my head on the bar.
And it's sad, but true.
Out of cash and I.O.Us.
Desperate desires and unadmirable plans.
My tongue will taste the gin and malicious intent.
Bring you back to the bar.
Get you out of the cold.
A sober straight face gets you out of your clothes.
And they're scared that we know all the crimes they'll commit.
Who they'll kiss before they get home.
I will lie awake.
Lie for fun and fake the way I hold you.
Let you fall for every empty word I say.
Barely conscious in the door where you stand.
Your eyes are fighting sleep while your mouth makes your demands.
You laugh at every word, trying hard to be cute.
I almost feel sorry for what I'm gonna do.
And your hair smells of smoke.
Who will cast the first stone?
You can sin or spend the night all alone.
Brass buttons on your coat hold the cold in the shape of a heart that they cut out of stone.
You're using all your looks that you've thrown from the start.
If you let me have my way, I swear I'll tear you apart.
Cause it's all you can be.
You're a drunk and you're scared.
It's ladies night.
All the girls drink for free.
I will lie awake.
Lie for fun and fake the way I hold you.
Let you fall for every empty word I say.

| This song is kinda disturbing. Makes me glad I'm not a girl. This and Sic Transit Gloria... Glory Fades are both songs that just give you shivers when you think about what they're talking about. | 28-04-2004 02:26 mAdEoFgLaSs | 3 posts

| No, this song is about how he "wanted" to rape a girl he met at a party. It's not true, but its not about him being afraid of fame. | 27-05-2004 00:41 kc_ashley | 13 posts
| This song is one of my favorite's by Brand New. The real meaning of the song is not what relates to me but in a way, reminds me of what I used to be, and how someone could of treated me, and infact did treat me. Not me pushing buttons, but him. Drives me insane. | 30-05-2004 01:11 BNOBNTBSDC | 692 posts
| Jesse writes about his feelings and hes honest...even when he did something wrong and he hurt someone elses feelings, he writes about it and confesses. and he didnt want to rape anyone! he wanted to have sex with a girl the song is about him using someone and pretending he actually cares about her to have sex with her. So this is a song where he was admiting he was wrong and he tells people that...just another reason Brand New is so amazing | 06-06-2004 21:07 aflackoh6 | 28,546 posts
| I have gotten tons of msgs about the title of this song. Just to clarify, it is 'Me vs Maradona vs Elvis. Maradona was a famous soccer player | 07-06-2004 01:17 thechinkster | 2 posts

| yeah i agree...its more about manipulation...pretending that "he" cares--if you look at it that way, its kind of coniving, but its an awesome song, and one of my favorites! | 07-06-2004 03:38 hurleysk8r05 | 7,842 posts

| okay, the title- Me vs. Maradona vs. Elvis. time for some clarification
maradona is a famous soccer player. but he ended up having a drug and alcohol problem.
and we all know that elvis wasn't all that clean either.
well, becoming famous is basically what brought maradona and elvis to those positions. and jesse (lead singer) is worried that he can wind up like one of them if he becomes real famous. | 07-07-2004 13:32 purple_hippo |

| This song is great. I thinks its the best on the album.
To Clarify...nah, too many people have said that!...confuse...the song is about the fame thing, and the using the girl thing is all metaphorical and stuff.
The hidden meaning jesse put into the songs are amazing and, in my opinion, puts them in a different catagory to most emo bands like Taking Back Sunday (who are great too btw!) | 17-07-2004 18:03 Zymurgy | 15 posts
| I think you all make it way too complicated ... screw the meaning the music is HOT! if i all of a sudden wrote a song about how my toe hurts i wouldnt want ppl going around saying " the toe thing is metephoric what she REALLY means is her heart hurts" and then someone else saying "NO thats not it she means that she has a problem with like suicide or something " i mean whats the point in that ?! get over it ! you dont know jesse so leave him alone ! | 17-07-2004 18:47 JAHamilton77 | 594 posts

i love this song. but i agree, everyones saying how it means different things and how jesse doesnt want to end up f'up. hell, i could bet my dog any of you know jesse, so i dont understand why youre talking about his feelings. and if you hadnt noticed, most of the titles have nothing to do with the song. maybe if you look at it in a VERY metaphorical way.. but you would be just wasting time on sth that you dont understand. any of us know what jesse was thinking when he wrote this, truth to be told, so lets just sit back and enjoy such a great song. youre all free to give it the meaning you like but dont go on saying youre right cuz no one really knows but brand new (and im not even sure if all of the members do.. o.o.. maybe garrett doesnt xD jk) | 20-07-2004 23:33 katrea | 15 posts
