Hmmmn... it's actually a classic that was rediscovered by Boyzone in their very early days.

Not the most vibrant of songs but the song and lyrics themselves actually makes sense and means something, which is always a good thing in my eyes.

This song is calm, and the text is real smart: It really is a conversation between father and son

i think the lyrics are about cat stevens when he had cancer... so i'm imagining that he tried to explain to his son that he might die but his son was afraid or something so he turned away... kinda sad if you think of it that way but i'm not sure if that's the real meaning, i'm just guessing

then why does he say that he has to go away? i still think it's about the cancer thing 'cause it says something about him trying to explain and his son turning away but i dunno..

This song is really beautiful.

I think it might be a dialogue between father and son.

The verses that end with "I know I have to go" could be the son (and the rest, his father), and his father is telling him to take it easy; he doesn't have to make any big decisions about his life yet.

If that was the case, it could be about the son going to war or, more broadly, just choosing his path in life.

It's quite a sad song, but what makes it more sad to me is that I became familiar with it through a life insurance (I think) ad that was played on TV a lot a few years ago. The ad showed a series of black and white shots with a father and son through the years, from when the son is a baby, till the son is middle aged and the father is elderly, and in all of them they are standing or working together happily. But in the last shot the middle-aged son is alone, and seems not to know what to do with himself without his father beside him. Almost makes me cry just thinking about it.
