| Song lyrics |
I never thought I'd die alone
I laughed the loudest who'd have known?
I traced the cord back to the wall
No wonder it was never plugged in at all
I took my time, I hurried up
The choice was mine, I didn't think enough
I'm too depressed to go on
You'll be sorry when I'm gone
I never conquered, rarely came
Sixteen just held such better days
Days when I still felt alive
We couldn't wait to get outside
The world was wide, too late to try
The tour was over we'd survived
I couldn't wait till I got home
To pass the time in my room alone
I never thought I'd die alone
Another six months I'll be unknown
Give all my things to all my friends
You'll never step foot in my room again
You'll close it off, board it up
Remember the time that I spilled the cup
Of apple juice in the hall
Please tell mom this is not her fault
I never conquered, rarely came
Sixteen just held such better days
Days when I still felt alive
We couldn't wait to get outside
The world was wide, too late to try
The tour was over we'd survived
I couldn't wait till I got home
To pass the time in my room alone
I never conquered, rarely came
But tomorrow holds such better days
Days when I can still feel alive
When I can't wait to get outside
The world is wide, the time goes by
The tour is over, I've survived
I can't wait till I get home
To pass the time in my room alone

You know, I have heard this song countless times and have always known it was a song about suicide, lonelyness, all the normal teenage things, but just now I turned the speakers up real loud and re-read the lyrics. Admist the singing along and staring at lyrics, I realized that the song has a meaning that actually touches me, too. It started to creep on me in some weird way, and I started to get teary eyed, but im not the kinda person that just breaks out sobbing like that so I didn't..
I am starting to listen to Blink again, and I am seeing that they deal with a lot of teenage issues, bad relationships, and depression.. Really great stuff if you're in that time frame as am I. I have memorized "Pathetic" and whenever I am feeling slightly depressed or anything I remember the chorus and it's all good from there.
Damn, Blink is such a great fucking band. | 26-11-2005 16:53 Geskhan | 28 posts

this is an awesome song. probably my favorite song ever. i'm almost 17 and i've had depression for years now and this song means a lot to me. it usually makes me feel better when i listen to it because at the end it talks about how things will get better but sometimes if i'm already really down it just makes me want to die even more. but blink-182 and adam's song is unbelievable! this song shows that they really can be lyrical gods. bow down to them! | 10-12-2005 16:29 nataliaa | 65 posts

I wasnt a big fan of blink until about a month ago when it started playing on my pod. i had always thought of blink as an over-commercialised band who every1 said they liked because they wanted to be cool, but when i took the time to hear the lyrics it made me feel really sad, but then really uplifted in the last verse when he decides not to kill himself. | you guys are idiots like idiots...
this song was a letter sent to blink by adam it's about someone who tried to seem ok around other people but really wasn't tried to commit suicide with electricity and water probably a toaster coz thats how they usually do it coz the voltage is right or whatever but it wasn't plugged in he wanted ti to go quickly but at the same time he didn't so he tried to go fast and slow
he didn't really think it through
the cord wasn't even in the wall
he never got were he wanted nothing worked out it was so much better when he was 16 he was happy and wanted to go out explore and have fun but thats all over and he was alive but nowhe just wants to sit alone in his room in 6 months everyone will forget he even existed and noone will dare walk in his room again for memories they'll hide it cover it up block the entrance but they won't go in
they'll remember pointless memories and he doesn't want his mum to think it was her fault the last chorus he's happy it never turned out because things will get better but he'll still be alone
i like this song not for the tune and not for the band but the lyrics it shows real insight and great writing whoever wrote it should be a legend because based on the rest of blinks stuff i doubt it was them

This song is amazing. PERIOD.
I know its about a suicidal boy...but...I found a whole new meaning!
I have a friend whose name isnt Adam but its pretty close to it. I listened to this song for a long time but it took me a while to figure out it reminded me of this guy-who I also happen to like.
He's always been a bit antisocial and is always the person on the outside of the circle kinda watching what happens, never dances at dances, is always the one asking what the hell happened.
He's "friends" with everyone, but I have a feeling he just wants to fit in. Where it says "I couldnt wait til I got home/ to pass the time in my room alone" it reminds me of his obsession with video games.
AWESOME song

For anyone who wanted to know what the meaning of this song is:
The band wrote this after one of their fans emailed them a copy of a suicide note a teenager had written to his parents before killing himself. They were also a little depressed about being away on tour. The end of the song is a message that things will get better
The lyrics, "I traced the cord back to the wall, no wonder it was never plugged in at all" were inspired when guitarist Tom Delonge was playing in his garage and he and his amp were in a puddle. Luckily, the amp was not plugged in or he could have been electrocuted.

| I started listening to Blink in like 4th grade and have been listening to them since (finishing Junior yr now). The songs are still amazing, but as I have grown and matured they mean SO MUCH MORE. I have cried listening to it before. This is one of the all-time best songs I have heard in my life. | 16-06-2006 05:44 beautifulx3lie | 2 posts

| This song is..depressing. It's so un-blinkish and sad. But it shows that Blink 182 were actual people with actual feelings and not just a song stuck in our heads.
It pisses me off that they broke up. Seriously, I had one dream, and that was to see them in concert, because I never had the chance or the money when they were together. I basicly hate them now.[immature, I know]but I dont hate their music. | 31-07-2006 06:48 Jizzica | 15 posts

A song that gets me..and this is totally off subject by the way..is called Mad World from the Donnie Darko soundtrack that Gary Jules and Michael Andrews did a collaberation effort to redo. It is seriously one of the most amazing songs I have ever heard and it never gets old. It just talks about how crazy this world is and it's so very true. This world that we live in today is spiraling out of control. I hope we can regain control of our lives again sometime in the near future. | 10-11-2006 07:46 gangterrb | 5 posts
