| Song lyrics |
Passed out in our school clothes,
So we'd wake up in our Sunday's best.
I never asked for your opinion,
I just got it;
And I get it.
You move slow like daytime drama,
And I'm boring like his songs.
So while I'm taking you for granted,
We'll be humming along.
Well cross my heart and hope to...
I'm lying just to keep you here.
So reckless, (So reckless.),
So thoughtless, (So thoughtless.)
So careless, I could care less.
Well cross my heart and hope to...
I'm lying just to keep you here.
(So reckless.)
Well she's so heartless,
And I could care less.
So paint your face up something elegant,
And this town may be a darker shade of red.
'Cause a long night,
Means a fist fight,
Against your pillow and my pearly whites.
I want to hear you scream.
Yu'd like me better on my knees.
So let us pray.
(We don't believe in second chances.)
So let us pray.
Don't you ask me.
Don't you move. (Anywhere.)
Well cross my heart and hope to...
I'm lying just to keep you here.
(I'll keep you here, I'll keep you here.)
One of us never did it but we're taking it all,
And tell me why you never promised that you wanted it all.
And her eyes never batted when she said it.
It's a long night, open, know it...
This glass house is burning down.
(Open all night, know it...)
You light the match, I'll stick around.
(Open all night, know it...)
I'll give you everything you want,
(Open all night, know it...)
And wish the worst on what I was.
(Open all night, know it...)
This glass house is burning down.
(Open all night, know it...)
You light the match, I'll stick around.
(Open all night, know it...)
I'll give you everything you want,
(Open all night, know it...)
And wish the worst on what I was.
(Open all night, know it...)
Tonight won't make a difference.
Tonight won't make a difference.
Tonight won't make a difference.
Well tonight won't make a difference.
Well tonight won't make a difference.
Tonight won't make a difference.
Tonight won't make a difference.
Well tonight won't make a difference.

BRAND NEW
BRAND NEW
BRAND NEW
BRAND NEW
hmmmmm?
THATS RIGHT. Take a look at Soco Amaretto Lime.
Taking Back Sunday are good, but could NEVER surpass Brand New in the lyrical area. | 14-02-2005 03:38 PerfectChaos18 | 34 posts
| I dont think they're trying to surpass them, the lyrics are still a jesse and john thing, kinda like seventy times 7/there is no i in team (entire copied phrases) Im not sure what the whole story is behind the connection, but if you find that out Im sure you'll get the meaning. | 04-03-2005 05:51 queenofdenial | 7 posts

its definatly still poking at jesse of brand new.. im pretty sure when he says "im boring like his songs" hes making a jab at brand new as well. they whole fight was over a girl actually. im pretty sure they set their differences aside, so im sure the jest is all in fun...and now just a staple of each of their music to poke fun at each other. im from LI and actually knew the guys b4 they were in the band... but ne way... TBS is still amazing.. and yes im a Brand New fan as well. | 23-03-2005 21:35 Oxymoronic | 225 posts
| Here...let's set the story straight.
Jesse Lacey, frontman for Brand New, used to play bass for Taking Back Sunday. He and John Nolan (TBS' former guitarist and songwriter) were best friends. They, supposedly, went to this party, and John slept with Jesse's girlfriend. In retaliation, Jesse wrote "Seventy Times 7" (the number of sins Jesus says should be forgiven) for his band Brand New. ("I hope there's ice on all the roads/and you can think of me when you forget your seatbelt/and again when your head goes through the windshield.")
TBS' answer song was "There's No 'I' In Team." It was kind of an apology ("I can't regret/can't you just forget it?"), but not really, mocking Jesse's "overkill" feelings ("Wearing your black eye like a badge of honor/soaking in sympathy").
Adam Lazzara, TBS's frontman, dated John's sister Michelle, and cheated on her a lot. Outraged, John left TBS and started his own band,
Straylight Run, along with Michelle.
There are two theories for what happened in between Jesse and John. One is that after "There's No 'I' in Team," Jesse and John reconciled, and that Jesse had a lot to do with John's decision to leave the band.
The other is that AFTER John started Straylight Run, Jesse came around, and allegedly started bad-mouthing Adam at shows. Either way, both people still hold grudges against Adam.
Back to this song, there is a LOT of lyrical parsing going around that it's about Jesse. TBS says they're sick of talking about it, but when Adam was asked whether or not he was still mad at Brand New, he said, "No...yeah. Fuck it. Keep it going. See if I care. All I'll say is that pride is a funny thing."
It's an interesting story, and I hope we can get more information on it later.

LMAO! They already did that. About, 30 times. Sorry but their lyrics dont even compare, TBS are well known for their lyrics one of the best punk/emo lyrics of all time (whatever you label them these days) which is agreed by many critics eg Kerrang | 04-06-2006 14:52 Shadow_Reaper | 54 posts

| i love how u say TBS lyrics are that much better than BN but we constantly see how TBS lyrics are based off BN lyrics. i guess its easy to copy great lyrics than make a little change then sit back and be called a great lyricist |
