Title : Hotel California
-----------------
On a dark desert highway,
cool wind in my hair
Warm smell of colitas,
rising up through the air
Up ahead in the distance,
I saw a shimmering light
My head grew heavy and my sight grew dim
I had to stop for the night
There she stood in the doorway
I heard the mission bell
And I was thinking to myself
This could be Heaven or this could be Hell
Then she lit up a candle
and she showed me the way
There were voices down the corridor
I thought I heard them say
Welcome to the Hotel California
Such a lovely place
Such a lovely place
Such a lovely face
Plenty of room at the Hotel California
Any time of year
Any time of year
You can find it here
Her mind is Tiffany-twisted,
she got the Mercedes Benz
She got a lot of pretty, pretty boys,
that she calls friends
How they dance in the courtyard,
sweet summer sweat
Some dance to remember,
some dance to forget
So I called up the Captain,
Please bring me my wine
He said, 'we haven't had that spirit here since nineteen sixty nine'
And still those voices are calling from far away
Wake you up in the middle of the night
Just to hear them say
Welcome to the Hotel California
Such a lovely place
Such a lovely place
Such a lovely face
They're livin' it up at the Hotel California
What a nice surprise
What a nice surprise
Bring your alibis
Mirrors on the ceiling
The pink champagne on ice
And she said 'we are all just prisoners here, of our own device'
And in the master's chambers
They gathered for the feast
They stab it with their steely knives
But they just can't kill the beast
Last thing I remember, I was
Running for the door
I had to find the passage back
To the place I was before
'Relax,' said the night man
We are programmed to receive
You can checkout any time you like
But you can never leave

this song is my favourite of all time! the song IS about drugs. mainly about LSD and they wrote it while in a particular hotel in California based on the bands experience (there is no hotel called hotel california) | 09-04-2007 22:11 thephil | 1 posts
| On a dark desert highway, cool wind in my hair
Warm smell of colitas, rising up through the air
dark desert high way is his life and he is smokign pot to try and make it better
It sounds to me that it is about heroin. "Up ahead in the distance, I saw a shimmering light
My head grew heavy and my sight grew dim
I had to stop for the night" To me these lines sound like he is havign issues in life and that he thinks he sees a way out.
''There she stood in the doorway
I heard the mission bell
And I was thinking to myself
This could be Heaven or this could be Hell
Then she lit up a candle and she showed me the way
There were voices down the corridor
I thought I heard them say''
the first line i dont know but the next he is debating on if he should try it or not
The lit up her candle sounds like a lighter to melt the heroin down to inject it.

Pretty much he stopped at a trap house ( a drug house for those who dont know)
"Her mind is Tiffany-twisted, she got the Mercedes Benz
She got a lot of pretty, pretty boys, that she calls friends"
she is a rich drug dealer
"How they dance in the courtyard, sweet summer sweat
Some dance to remember, some dance to forget"
dancing refering to drugs which so do them to forget bad time while others to relive better times
So I called up the Captain,
Please bring me my wine
He said, 'we haven't had that spirit here since nineteen sixty nine'
And still those voices are calling from far away
Wake you up in the middle of the night
Just to hear them say
The captin is the one that is supplying the heroin and the wine is it. the 1969 is refering to the date in which heroin became a very popular drug the voices calling from far away are him saying that you always crave it even after your clean of it
Welcome to the Hotel California
Such a lovely place
Such a lovely place
Such a lovely face
They're livin' it up at the Hotel California
What a nice surprise
What a nice surprise
Bring your alibis
pretty much a flashback of the euphoria that heroin creates bring your alibis refers to needing an excuse on where you were when he were shooting up or why you were acting the way you were while on it.
Mirrors on the ceiling
The pink champagne on ice
And she said 'we are all just prisoners here, of our own device'
And in the master's chambers
They gathered for the feast
They stab it with their steely knives
But they just can't kill the beast
mirrors on the ceiling i dont know maybe so you can lie on your back and see your self while messed up the pink champagne on ice refers to the heroin we are all just prisoners here of our own device obviously the addicts there are slaves on there syringes the masters chambers pretty much where they all shot up the feast is when everyone shoots up
they stab it with there steel and knives the needles going into them but they just cant kill the beast refers to the tolernace levels of heroine users also refered to chasing the dragon
Last thing I remember, I was
Running for the door
I had to find the passage back
To the place I was before
'Relax,' said the night man

But you can never leave
he relises that this is bad and that he is gettign sucked in so he gets out of it to were he was before which i think refers to just smoking pot because colitas are the tips of pot leaves and they are refered to at the begining of the song the night man being a friend or rehab person saying that we all need help sometimes with stuff then the last line talking about how you can stop using heroin but you never stop craving it
well that is what i think of the song im sure that others disagree and that cool songs like this are left up to interpetion anyways i agree some of it soungs like ti coudl be satanic but it sounds mostly about heroin
