| Song lyrics |
Imagine there's no heaven
It's easy if you try
No hell below us
Above us only sky
Imagine all the people
Living for today
Imagine there's no countries,
It isn't hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion too
Imagine all the people
Living life in peace
You may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope some day you'll join us
And the world will be as one
Imagine no possessions
I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger
A brotherhood of man
Imagine all the people
Sharing all the world
You may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope some day you'll join us
And the world will live as one

Anyway, John Lennon was a great man with a great message. Few songs are up to this caliber, Definitely nothing from the last 25 years.
This song fit the Vietnam era and it fits today just as well. Give peace a chance. | 31-07-2006 12:50 Carpediem_crazy | 13 posts

I am not trying to bash on you, because i too, LOVE God. However, God and religion are not directly related in any way. It was not God's idea for a church, he just wanted people to love him, proclaim his word, follow in Jesus' ways, etc. Im sure whatever religion you are, there iis nothing wrong with it, and Im sure you worship God, so on and so forth, but just to let you know, religionn and God arent the same. Im sure God agrees with the good intentions of religion( not the wars and conflicts it brings, but all the other good stuff) but he doesnt enforce a specific religion.
with that beingg said, although John Lennon did not believe in God, he had much respect for those who did. Furthermore, a world without religiion andn just private worship of God would be SO much better and peaceful ex. [ just think of all the war and death it brings (the crusades, the conflicts in Israel, etc.)] Also, a world without possesions would result in no greed or hunger, obviously, and with no countries, there would be nothing to "kill or die for" so on and so forth...
These socialist lyrics were his ideas along with the ideas of many others, for a world in which everybody lived together as one "brotherhood of man" where tthere would be no poverty, hunger, greed, hate ( all the problems of today). This is quite hard to accomplish, for you need full cooperation of the people, but if these ideas were achieved, the world would be a much more peaceful and better place.
Thats all Mr Lennon was getting at. | 11-12-2006 06:16 hugadancer | 10 posts

Oh John, you're not the only one.
We're millions!
Imagine is the dream of a world without wars, nor religions, without heavens nor hells, without possessions nor countries.
Like Lennon said: "Imagine is [...] anti-religious, anti-nationalistic, anti-conventional, anti-capitalistic, but because it is sugarcoated it is accepted."
We love you and we miss you, John.
Thank you for everything!

When one acknowledges the presence of a Divine Power, then there is no other existence, thus the lack of need for separation and division using finite concepts, (i.e. the heaven/hell conundrum of the lyrics). At least that's how I try to interpret that part of the message in John's brilliant tome to peace and global harmony.
Truly a World Anthem, and one that should be adopted as such by every organization that serves the common good of all individuals without distinction. namaste, aroha nui | 22-02-2008 19:35 ANewLevel | 4 posts

Today is the 28th anniversary of John's murder. I still can't imagine him not being here. As long as his words and music exists I guess he wont ever really die. This is a great song and no doubt Johns' bet creative work. | 08-05-2009 01:15 sweet_girl4yu | 1 posts
