| yall just chill, this is supposed to be about the music, not arguing over who has better guitar skills and whatnot. All that needs to be said is that Nirvana was an awesome band who did all kinds of great stuff. yep,some of my nirvana faves r lithium,heart-shaped box,polly,and another song which i cnt remember,lol.it just makes u wonder that if kurt was alive,would nirvana still be? or would kurt have moved on to do acoustic stuff(a rumour i've heard)?...but dave grohl has certainly done well for himself(band: the foo fighters),he can play the drums amazingly,and play guitar,and has a great voice.but i dunno wot kris is doin.

| Acutally, Toecrusher, Cobain began to play guitar when he was 14 and most definitely did not learn to play from Novoselic. He was actually friends with Krist's younger brother and had become interested in Krist when he heard him playing music that Cobain also liked. Cobain auditioned for the Melvins before the two had even become friends and I believe Kurt had a few other bands before Krist too. Krist only became interested in Cobain's music when Kurt sent him a demo of him playing with one of his bands and Krist realized just how good it was. He most definitely did not teach him. Helped him, maybe, I don't know, but not teach him.
As for the not being able to play and sing at the same time, as a guitarist I'm sure you can agree that's one of the hardest things to do (for me at least, but I have horrible coordination, so whatever), but he obviously got over it. Which should add to his skill even more.
And as for the guitar skill, I think that although how a guitarist affects someone is always different, you're right that music skill is not relative. And Kurt was a great guitarist. The best? No. One of the best? Possibly. If he wasn't good, would he have been voted 12th greatest guitar player of all-time by the Rolling Stone? I don't think so.
You're also right about people often mistaking the bass lines for the guitar riffs, and that's often what they refer to when they credit Kurt's guitar-playing. But just because they had awesome bass lines, doesn't mean the guitar didn't kick-ass.
The opening chords of SLTP? Probably the most important nine seconds of my life. That was good guitar playing. Are you saying that wasn't good guitar-playing?

| Hmm, I think you can argue about guitar skills, britney's voice etc.
Anyway, somebody said that he learned to play guitar at 14 before he met krist. That's different from what I've read, but could well be. I've read come as you are in quite a hurry so I might have misread (or I had the info from somewhere else). Anyway, I doubt if he auditioned for the melvins when he was 14. I believe he was older at that point.
I've read that rs list and I didn't agree with it at all. A lot of people I know from a forum didn't agree with it. At some point it is just an opinion, but saying that Kurt played guitar as one of the best in the world is bullshit.
And somebody else said that it is 'sad' that people only notice teen spirit. I totally agree. But thanks to teen spirit most youngsters buy (if young people buy anyway) nevermind. I did anyway... | | 29-04-2004 20:49 malena_jaxx |

| heres what this is about....
kurt was sleeping with this girl at the time who used that deotarant... and a mutual friend wrote that on a wall "kurdt (thats how he preferred to spell his name) smells like teen spirit" as a hint that she knows they were having a relationship.
you should pay attention to "about a girl" which is about his first real girlfriend tracy.
