| This song is amazing but i think many people get confeused about the video so here is what i think:
As christians we swim up stream in this world. The easy way out would to just ride the current through life but then you end up in the pits of hell. So for us we walk towards Christ and on that journey we will get knocked down becuase we are not perfect (how the boys get hit by the other people and stumbles but "dare you to move/ pick yourself up off the ground") and through it all, all though it is hard, in the end you make it and you live an eternal life full of joy with our creator God. (how at the end the boy makes it through the crowd and looks up at the light) this song really modivates you when you are stuggling with your walk with Christ and it really helps. I love it. first of, this is a great song, but the video confused me. I think that it is either what eveyone else is saying, but the video seems like it could have undertones refering to sept 11th. The only thing i can thingk of in the song about this is the lines "like today never happened" and "today never happened before." Well, this is like one of my favorite songs now and I believe it has a Christian message behind; or "inspirational" for the Atheists. Music is an art and sometimes it is like abstract art; everyone has their own meaning to what the images are. Nevertheless, you have to count that fact that they are a Christian band and the following lyrics:

| My take on the song...
Basically everyone is the same situation. God gives us a life to live. We all have the same opportunity to live it the way that we choose. Most people choose to live it their own way, to be the ruler of their own destiny and to act like life is subject to their own rules. There are times though when we find that our own failures and own mistakes leave us and those around us miserable. For those of us who choose to live life on own we also have to bear up under the mistakes that we have made. The past is not always escapable no matter how good we get at hiding it. We fall flat on our face and getting up and living the next day, the next hour, or even the next moment like it never happened becomes an ever increasing burden. All the while we can't change the past and the present is often harder to live because of the mistakes we have made. The life we choose to live is not the life we imagined it would be. Who we are now, today, is a direct result of the choices we have made, for better or worse. Still we continue living the same way making decisions that have consequences that we did not intend. We justify our life choices by saying at least I lived fully, a life lived full of choices that result in what some might call an adventure, a story worth telling. That mistakes are what make life worth living. There are some people though that are simply running from lifestyle to lifestyle attempting to change their lives to escape the regrets they have or the consequences. I think the song is saying that you don't have to live a life of regret to really live...that a redeemed life is a life worthy of story. That you don't have to run from your mistakes to start living a new life, in fact God is able to meet us where we need him most, when we have fallen flat on our face in failure and dissappointment. Salvation doesn't require that we make ourselves perfect in order to receive it, and forgiveness does not require us to stand ourselves before it is given. Forgiveness only needs to be accepted and is a gift that allows us to live to our potential. To stand and live life as though it were new again and we could live it better this time. Salvation belongs to those who stand up and dare to move forward despite their failings. Salvation and forgiveness are available now and every time we fall. So what will you do? Live life with the power to press on, knowing every moment you have been given the opportunity to know God through the years of your life without having to regret the times you have fallen. To live life like this it takes courage, because not everyone will understand, and many will simply choose not to try to. In the end your life will have been lived more abundantly because it was used as God intended it, not to be wasted with regret, and torn apart by failures, but with the opportunity to see God for who He Is, in the things He has created and the things he has done and is doing. I think Switchfoot's song is simply talking about the first step, finding forgiveness for our mistakes, and letting that forgiveness empower us, to lift ourselves up and live every second of every day to its potential. Umm has anyone ever noticed how if you look up the songs that don't have videos and have never been on mtv there is no discussion started?And how i can go up to any of my friends and say like "oh ya,bad astronaut's new song is awesome"
And they will be just totally clued out but then if I go "do you like vindicated"They will be like "Oh ya that song is so aawesome Dashboard rocks!"
And they think they like know DC like just because they have heard one song.
Like with this song...I could have said I loved it when I first heard it on "A walk To Remember" and they'd be like "oh I haven't heard it"And Now If I say it they'll be like "Oh ya,I know it is awesome hey...AIt was on MTV yesterday night"

Someone in our LIFE group at school used this song to describe our 'existence' in highschool.
I took the song completely different before then. It fit for what he was talking about, but I think he made it lose something it had before...
Either way, it has some powerful lyrics anyway you take it.
By the way, it's not just me, right? The guy songs like he's whimping out when he's singing it. I like it when guys can hit that certain note and make the song, but somehow this guy just kinda threw that. When he says "I dare you to move" it just falls flat. | Hey so yeah...this song is most definitely fantastically cool..i fully dig it!
I do happen to believe its point is like salvation is here and we can be saved no matter what!!! God accepts us anyway we come!! when we've fallen and all we can run back to Him and like we shouldnt run with the crowd cuz wheres the crowd gonna get us!? anyways yeah that song is really cool though...very inspirational! ;-) i decided to write "salvation is here" on a bunch of strips of paper and hand em out at school and i hope it did some good...some people got mad that i gave em that..but i dunt mind id do anything for our Savior...He died for us!!! but yeah anyways yall folk claimin to be Christians STEP OUT and be a Christian!! Switchfoot is one of the best bands out there, I was so lucky to see them live this summer, they definitely rock. I love the variety of songs they play, upbeat ones and slower ones too!!!!

I think the song means whatever we want it to mean. Thats the beauty of music. To me, its just a great melody, it caught my attention after listening to it for the firsttime on my pirated compilation CD (sorry, music industry moguls!).
