57 posts	Alright since a few people were questioning it.... This song was written by Billie Joe for his father who past away of cancer on September 1, 1982. During the funeral he ran home, went up to his room, and locked the door. When his momma knocked on the door and he simply said "Wake me up when September ends." The seven years reference means that Sweet Children (Green Day) formed seven years after his father's death. And 20 years is a homage to when he wrote this song...... Just in case any of you were wondering. Now my BIG question still is, how does his father's death have to do with some dude joining the war?
