3,618 posts	* offtopic : As I've said a million f'n times, Avril Lavigne IS NOT PUNK OR A ROCKER. That's just her image for our little tweens to get into. If you actually look at her albums songs, most of them ain't really punk at all. Also when you get great songwriters like Ben Moody and Chantal Kreviazuk working on your music, there must be something good going there. also, SHE SANG COUNTRY before she made it big e.g. the song 'Two Rivers'. Avril got discovered through a COUNTRY radio competition. Ok, yeah, I admit, she can't really do covers, the only decent song she's covered is 'Knocking on Heaven's Door', which suits her voice more. Avril Lavigne suffers from MAJOR overexposure in the mainstream.

And anyone with an ear can tell Avril Lavigne has a beautiful voice, I havn't heard this song or the Green Day version but either way you can't deny Avril has a good voice. You can't cover a song without permission of the original singer so obviously Green Day didn't care if she did this song, I've never read or heard one of the Green day members saying "0MGWTFBBQ AVRIL IS SUCH A POSER I WISH SHE WOULD BE HIT BY A BUS" If Green Day has nothing against Avril than a true fan of Green Day wouldn't either. And wishing "slow and painful" death on someone is just...evil. If you don't want to hear this song...well heres a crazy idea, how about not listening to it? 0MG WTF I HAD NO IDEA YOU COULD NOT LISTEN TO SOMETHING! Im a 16 year old 6'01 Chinese guy with dreadlocks who practices kung fu and I have to say that I love listening to Avril. 1,695 posts	we're not dissing avril (at least i didnt), we're dissing her VERSION of the song, i personally think its a disgrace to the original, whether green day approved it or not. (just cuz im a green day fan doenst mean i have to like the people they like). and also, if u havent heard her cover of it (let alone the REAL thing!) why should u be entitled to an opinion about it? why dont u go listen to the green day version and then listen to the avril version and THEN u can come on here and say whats better, ok?

36,178 posts	^^ My thoughts exactly. Every band covers songs from other artists. What's so wrong with covering a Green Day song? People are acting like it's a crime to cover one of their songs. So what if she does a bad job at it? She did it during a live performance for fun, it's not recorded material. Get off your high horses.

3,618 posts	Happykilla5, praise my fellow Chinese guy that rant was brilliant. Yes, she does have a voice, although not a very powerful one, she writes her music to suit her voice well. If you heard her country singing songs that she's recorded e.g. Two Rivers, that proves she has a voice that's beyond her age. She is just too much in mainstream media for her own good IMO.

1,695 posts	ribosom, to YOU theyre not the best band ever, but to people like me who have been listening to them their whole lives, they ARE. just had to say that cuz people have different opinions on this. i dont have anything against avril really, some of her songs are OKAY, but this one is just making a disgrace of the original. im not saying its a "crime" to do a cover of other songs, but i am saying that her version sucks major @$$. but again, everyone has their own opinions, so lets just leave it at that

1,695 posts	oh, and about the "starting" the punk rock era, i think they started the modern punk rock era, there havent been very many punk bands until green day came out in the early 90's, then came a TON of other bands...so yeah, thats just MY opinion of course
