504 posts	I must agree with the majority here. She can't write her own songs decently, let alone cover anybody else's well. I won't make this out like "h0mg that's evil Avril sux!!!!111one", but put it this way, she hasn't the right voice or style to fit the Basketcase cover.

Her version is more better then Green Day by far. For all the people that are supporting Green Day and dissing Avril just think most of Green Day albums have been a flop! Only recently they've started to pick up and now there music is all pop, so all you Green Day lovers surely can't be goths/punks whatever. Just think before you write, Avril's been succesful throughout her career and she's still got far to go with the backing of many loyal Av fans. Just because Green Day has recently had a 'dig' at Avril and all she has ever done is respected them and done excellent covers of their awful, awful songs. Get a life people, Avril still rocks and will continue to rock whether you like it or not. End of.

10 posts	rhythm melody instruments lyrics vocal in 50/50 on avril... meaning i dont hate her, but i dont particularly like her either, but i have to have my say on this.. i think this topic might be a little old.. but im gonna write anyways i have a long list of all the songs avril lavignes covered.. i'll name a few all the small things - blink 182 the rock show (or as she called it the "punk" show) - blink 182 And I - box car racer basket case - green day knocking on heavens door - cant remember who originally sang it elevator - Box car racer (BCR) there is - BCR feeling this (or as she called it, im feeling this dude) - blink 182 strings - blink 182 pathetic - blink 182 my own worst enemy - lit heres you letter - blink 182 waggy - blink 182 tv - blink 182 touch down boy - blink 182 sometimes - blink 182 not now - blink 182 go - blink 182 we will rock you - queen shut up - simple plan kiss me - sixpence non the richer wannabe (or as she called it.. friends) - spice girls fat lip - sum 41 chop suey - system of a down barbie girl - aqua ok i'll stop there, i could continue adding more to this list but im pretty sure you're all tired of reading by now (and to the person who said she only did 2 cover songs.. im afraid not, as u can see form the list above she has done MANY cover songs).. anyways it annoys me the fact that avril cover SO MANY songs.. she has 2 albums of her own (which btw she didnt actually write on her own for all those of you who think she did.. read the booklet inside, u will see she co-wrote them) so why does she go around covering all these perfectly good songs? what annoys me even more is the fact that shes covered practically all of blinks songs(and apparently her favorite band is green day.. so why not cover all of their songs?) and blink happens to be my favorite band.. and i hate to see her destroying blinks songs, i recently downloaded her version of all the small things and it sucked!! what right does she have to go around covering all blink songs, and anybody else songs for that matter.. isnt there such thing as copyright? and laws that stop you from stealing other peoples work and using them as ur own??? what annoys me EVEN more than that is the fact that i checked out a few avril fan sites (yes i did research, so i know what songs shes covered) and a lot of her fans think she wrote all blinks songs... so just for the record im really annoyed by the fact that shes covered YET ANOTHER song, she should stick to co writing her own songs and leave other peoples ALONE! for my vote on her cover of green days basket case.. which didnt need to be covered it was a master piece as it was.. but she took it an ruined it.. its like going into an art gallery and purposely destroying the greatest piece of art work in there.. that what she did with green days song! im going to vote the lyrics as "great" providing she didnt change them (i dunno if she did or not) since green day wrote the lyrics, but the rest im going to give a "bad" because she sung it.. did the instruments an stuff. ok end of rant

57 posts	Okay I'm not trying to get into this little argument all I have to say is that it's not wrong for an artist/band to remake a song, come on I listen to Reel Big Fish you kind of get used to the remakes. In my own personal opinion this version of Basketcase sucked ass. I've never liked Avril but is this why I'm saying this, no. It just sucked.

I dont particularly care for it but its not the first time someone covers a song. Most of the time covers are bad. I think that you guys are blowing this outta proportion. I am a huge Green Day fan and everyone knows that you cannot cover a Green Day song sucessfully. She tried and she failed...........end of story! Its kinda sad to be hating all over her because she tried to do basketcase, when someone covers a song it usually means that they look up to the band that did the song that they are covering. I think all of us Green Day fans should be happy that Avril likes Green Day and thinks their great enough to attempt their song. I dont think it was a good idea for her to do it...but all of you are overreacting. BTW I used to love Avrils older stuff when I was in like 4th grade. Her newer stuff is kinda poppish.
