| Song lyrics |
Back in school they never taught us,
What we needed to know.
Like how to deal with despair,
Or someone breakin' your heart.
Twelve years I've held it all together,
But a night like this is beggin' to pull me apart.
I played it quiet left you deep in conversation.
I felt uncool and hung out around the kitchen.
I remember I kept thinking,
That I know you never would.
And now I know I want to kill you,
Like only a best friend could.
Everyone's caught on to everything you do.
Everyone's caught on to..
As if it happening wasn't enough,
I gotta go and write a song,
Just to remind myself how bad it sucked.
Ignore the sun, covers over my head.
Wrote a message on my pillow that says,
"Jesse, stay asleep in bed."
Don't apologize.
I hope you choke and die.
Search your shelf for something which to hang yourself.
They say you need to pray,
If you want to go to heaven.
But they don't tell you what to say,
When your whole life has gone to Hell.
Everyone's caught on to everything you do.
Everyone's caught on to..
(And I can't let you let me down again.)
Everyone's caught on to everything you do.
(And I can't let you let me down again.)
Everyone's caught on to..
So is that what you call a getaway?
Tell me what you got away with,
Cause I've seen more spine in jellyfish.
I've seen more guts in eleven-year-old kids.
Have another drink and drive yourself home.
I hope there's ice on all the roads,
And you can think of me when you forget your seatbelt,
And again when your head goes through the windshield.
Is that what you call tact?
You're as subtle as a brick in the small of my back.
So let's end this call and end this conversation.
And is that what you call a getaway?
Tell me what you got away with,
Cause you left the frays from the ties you severed.
When you say "best friends" means friends forever.
Is that what you call a getaway?!?
Tell me what you got away with,
Cause I've seen more spine in jellyfish.
I've seen more guts in eleven-year-old kids.
Have another drink and drive yourself home.
I hope there's ice on all the roads,
And you can think of me when you forget your seatbelt,
And again when your head goes through the windshield!
(Is that what you call a getaway?)
Everyone's caught on to everything you do.
(Tell me what you got away with.)
Everyone's caught on to..
(Cause I've seen more spine in jellyfish.)
Everyone's caught on to everything you do.
(And I've seen more guts in 11 year old kids.)
Everyone's caught on to..
(Have another drink and drive yourself home.)
Everyone's caught on to..
(I hope theres ice on all the roads.)
Everyone's caught on to..
(And you can think of me, when you forget your seatbelt,)
Everyone's caught on to..
(And again when your head goes through the winshield!)
Everyone's caught on to..
(I can't let you let me down again.)
Everyone's caught on to..
(And I can't let you let me down again.)
Everyone's caught on to..
(I can't let you let me down again.)
Everyone's caught on to everything you do.
(And I can't let you let me down again.)
Everyone's caught on to..

also - just so you noe in hebrew, the number 7 sorta means like endless. Like when god created the world in 6 days, and the 7th day was for the rest of eternity. So i guess you can say that it means something like you forgive someone 70 times 7, or however long it takes (pretty much forever).
yeah jesse ran these lyrics by me when the cd first came out - hes the #1 stunna on this side of long island. YOU HEAR ME JESSE?! NUMBER ONE STUNNA!!!!

k i know brand new and tbs had their share of rivalries and all that and i used to be a total tbs freak (offtopic: tbs suck without nolan).. anyways the lyrics in this song are better than the lyrics of any tbs song ever and i think brand new are a much better band.
excellent song, definitely one of their best | 07-07-2005 00:06 XemoXkidX | 10 posts

hey 'yummycandy' - Jesse is the name of the lead singer, and If you look at the context of the name in the song- the person that he hopes 'thinks about him when their head goes through the windshield' wrote him a note on his pillow.
Jesse is a guys name
Jessie is a girls name.
you should learn the band members names.

| this song's awesome.
but i don't think the lyrics are better than any taking back sunday song? some of the lyrics in this song are really dumb.
"Cause I've seen more spine in jellyfish
I've seen more guts in eleven-year-old kids"
i don't think they should have mentioned jellyfish, most of the lyrics are really good, and then they bring up jellyfish.

Agreed with that jellyfish thing. This is a great song but older TBS lyrics wipe the floor with these. | 18-11-2005 20:36 hockeyangel | 45 posts

| One of my personal goals this year is to be able to sing all the lyrics. It's so dang fast. And awsome.
Great song. Brand New has some of the best lyrics out there. | 25-11-2005 00:25 ScarletStarlet | 15 posts
| To whoever was wondering about why the line, "Is that what you call tact? You're as subtle as a brick in the small of my back, so let's end this call, and end this conversation." was also in the TBS song, it's because TBS made a reference to it. BN wrote Seventy Times Seven first, and in TBS' retailaition (sp?), they reference that line. It is not stealing, it's borrowing.
There's also rumours that Jesse Lacey and John Nolan wrote that line together, and used it in both of their songs on purpose, but the above reason is the one that's more widely accepted.
There's even more rumours that that line is the last thing that Jesse Lacey said to John Nolan on the phone, but if you think about it, it's kind of silly. Who actually talks like that in real life? My friend and I mock that rumour all the time, because I doubt Jesse Lacey would actually ever talk like that. Who's that poetic in their normal conversations? Honestly. | 22-02-2006 02:44 xxvemo_guyvxx | 2 posts

Allegedly Jesse wrote this song for John Nolan of Straylight Run (who was playing bass for Taking Back Sunday at the time) because John supposedly slept with his girlfriend... The rumors have never been proven, but it seems that everything has been patched up between the two if they were... Oh, yeah, and TBS's song "There's No "I" in Team" is supposed to be John's (and Adam's?) reply to Jesse...
It's cool to know the back story, cause then the lyrics make complete sense... Especially the part
"And is that what you call a getaway?
Tell me what you got away with,
Cause you left the frays from the ties you severed.
When you say "best friends" means friends forever."
All Hail Jesse Lacey, king of the pissed off lyric writing |
