| Song lyrics |
Step one you say, "We need to talk."
He walks, you say, "Sit down, it’s just a talk."
He smiles politely back at you,
You stare politely right on through,
Some sort of window to your right.
As he goes left and you stay right,
Between the lines of fear and blame,
You begin to wonder why you came.
Where did I go wrong? I lost a friend,
Somewhere along in the bitterness.
And I would have stayed up with you all night,
Had I known how to save a life.
Let him know that you know best,
'Cause after all you do know best.
Try to slip past his defense,
Without granting innocence.
Lay down a list of what is wrong.
The things you’ve told him all along.
Pray to god he hears you.
And I pray to god he hears you and,
Where did I go wrong? I lost a friend,
Somewhere along in the bitterness.
And I would have stayed up with you all night,
Had I known how to save a life.
As he begins to raise his voice,
You lower yours and grant him one last choice.
"Drive until you lose the road,
Or break with the ones you’ve followed."
He will do one of two things.
He will admit to everything,
Or he’ll say he’s just not the same,
And you’ll begin to wonder why you came.
Where did I go wrong? I lost a friend,
Somewhere along in the bitterness.
And I would have stayed up with you all night,
Had I known how to save a life.
Where did I go wrong? I lost a friend,
Somewhere along in the bitterness.
And I would have stayed up with you all night,
Had I known how to save a life.
How to save a life.
How to save a life.

Definately a powerful of a song. I remember hearing this song last night while flipping through the channels and had to stop on the channel and listened to it because it was first the beat of the song that I was attracted too, then I heard the words and was like "Wow....this is a sad but great song" | 03-08-2006 01:26 mattysgirl | 4 posts
| this is one of my favorite songs right now. i love it even though i usually burst into tears halfway through because it reminds me of my little sister.. shes 16 addicted to drugs, dating an abusive guy and i can't get through to her.. =( but anyways..

It's sad to say but I can really relate to this song. My ex-boyfriend is a cocaine addict and I thought he would change. I tried to tell him about his problem but he just wouldn't hear any of it. He says he doesn't have a problem... that he just does it on the weekends but when a person starts to b!tch at evryone else around because they can't get any of their stuff or they "don't have enough", there's a problem there. He's a way better person without those drugs. Anyways, it's a really touching song and I really love it*

the first time i heard the fray (on purevolume - Over my head) i absolutely hated them. i actually still hate all their other songs as well.
but this song is just so beautiful. the concept of "saving a life" is so original and the lyrics describe so many different situations at once....it's so right. | 12-09-2006 03:15 Cynic00 | 7 posts

The 9/11 Tribute version of this song is amazing; very touching and well-done. This was a great song with all its original meanings, but in doing that Tribute, IMO, The Fray outdo themselves and become a lot more than entertainers.
The Tribute song can be heard and downloaded for free at http://kysr.com/main.html. I heard it's also available on The Fray's website but I have not been able to find it. | 17-09-2006 14:43 Darinchic | 84 posts

Me and my fiend loved this song. we made it our song. One night we got into a really really big fight, and it was my fault. every single lyric fit the situation. I lost a fiend, and i could have saved the realtionship, but who knows now... | 18-09-2006 19:09 stewie666 | 2 posts

| hey everyone, this song was recently in a Grey's Anatomy episode over in Australia and when I heard it I thought it sounded familiar. Now I know, it was also in Scrubs. Very touching song, I think everyone can relate to the lyrics in some way or another. | 23-09-2006 09:53 Mischa_B | 1 posts

I can't even describe how beautiful this song is... it does remind me of people that I've lost and wished I could do more for.
It was the main ending song for Grey's Anatomy, Season 2 and it fit just right... it made the entire season seem so much more emotional and personal.
I love it! | 27-09-2006 01:25 50centwannab | 11 posts

Thank you Greys Anantomy, I love this song. It went well with the show. Izzie was inlove with a man that needed a heart transplant. She tried to save him. everytime i hear this song i think of her lying next to him in the hospital bed, trying to figure out how she could of saved him. I think people go through this everyday.
