I do agree that it contradicts their image of sort of a politically, socially active and expressive group. And whoever says that it's a new meaning for the word 'retarded', I would understand if the word is commonly used in society like how everyone says gay and mean it in a different way now, but who uses the word retarded the way they did? People who are offended probably are because they don't get it. Still, it's pretty uncreative of them to use a sensitive word like that and it doesn't even help make the song anymore attractive.

Look, The term 'Let's get retarded' means like, gettign carefree...Welcome to the 21st century , they don't mean physically Disabled, B.E.P. is a great band and great people they'd never discriminate like that. They mean it in the best possible connotation fo the word, and still then, they made 'Let's get it started' just for those few who are dumb enough to get pissed about it. And if you STILL don't believe me, right before the chorus they're like "Let's get into, get stupid, let's get retarded...etc." So, yeah....5/5 it's a great song, VERY addictive and B.E.P. is the bomb , they going to the top! But tehre are some people who could find the term offensive, even if it wasn't intettionally meant that way!

I have an autistic brother and i think BEP are a really cool band, and this is a great song, but it would have been better if they just released it as lets get it started, because surely they would have realised people would get offended. I personally dont think that you can judge a song simply by its lyrics, so to all the people who rated this song as completely poor simply because they dislike the lyrics, i think you need to broaden your mind. Bep meant absolutley no harm in this song, they didnt intend to offend anyone. When they make reference to getting retarded they mean freeing yourself, and dancing etc. Overall i think this is a great song, but like i said before it wouldve been better if it was originqally released as Lets get it started. I'm sure they didn't mean the lyrics/title to offend people since calling someone who's disabled retarded is a pretty old word, not one you hear about much. As someone said people use it in different contexts these days and the modern meaning is what the band are implying. I do think though, they should have used a different word, since it can be offensive and is quite insensitive. I don't know, yeah in a way the music industry can be really strict these days but in this song, it is a bad choice of words...

Considering that there are people in this world who have mental problems and other things metally wrong with them and they did the song "where is the love" Wouldn't you think the BEP would have more respect for the world. In a way this song makes me sick. I can understand why people changed the lyrics to "lets get it started" Because that would be better but then some other lyrics cannot be changed. If someone is retarded then so be it - they know they are so why should lyrics in a song hurt them? These words were not used in an offensive context so SHUT UP! This song is great - it goes off! In the clubs no one cares about the lyrics to a song - it's about having a good time and that is exactly what this song enables us to do! I don't agree with the lyrics 100% but i don't care - it's not one of those songs that you actually sit down and listen to - you party to it!
