| Song lyrics |
Where are we?
What the hell
is going on?
The dust has only just
Begun to fall
Crop circles in the carpet
Sinking,
Feeling
Spin me round again
And rub
my eyes
This can't be
happening
When busy streets
a mess with people would stop to hold
their heads
heavy
Hide and Seek
Trains and sewing machines.
All those years
They were here first
Oily marks appear on walls
where pleasure moments hung before
The takeover
The sweeping insensitivity
of this
Still Life
Hide and Seek
Trains and sewing machines (Oh, you won't catch me around here)
Blood and tears (Hearts)
They were here first
Mmm, what you say?
Mm, that you only meant well?
Well, of course you did.
Mmm, what you say?
Mm, that it's all for the best?
Ah, off course it is.
Mmm, what you say?
Mm, that it’s just what we need?
And you decided this?
Mmm what you say?
Mm,
What Did She Say?
Ransom notes keep falling out your mouth
Mid-sweet talk
Newspaper word cut-outs (Paper word cut outs)
Speak no feeling
No, I dont believe you * i dont believe you
You don't care a bit,
You Don't Care A Bit
Ransom notes keep falling out your mouth (Hide and Seek)
Mid-sweet talk
Newspaper word cut-outs
Speak no feeling (Hide and Seek)
No, I dont believe you
You don't care a bit,
You Don't Care A Bit (you don't care a bit)
Oh, no (Hide and Seek)
You don't care a bit. (Hide and Seek)
Oh, no
You don't care a bit.
Oh, no
You don't care a bit
You don't care a bit
You Don't Care A Bit

"crop circles in the carpet"
I think the ruins after the WTC towers can be resembled like crop circles in the carpet.
* I really adore, perhaps worship! , this song, really can't get it out of my head. Though it gets me in a sad mood, I can't stop loving it.
I agree that the first verse could be about 9/11.
Though the whole song gives me the impression of a heartbreak, confusion and sorrow.

| I first heard this song about 6 months ago, it
didn't seem to make much sense then and
when I hear it today, it still doesn't make
much sense. I think there is a lot of pain in
the lyrics but my question is this "is the pain
self inflicted?" | 18-02-2006 23:48 cell_mate | 1 posts

I believe this song is all about having your heartbroken. "The dust has only just begun to fall", - the pain has only just begun.
"Crop circles in the carpet, sinking, feeling." - like your heart is having holes burt into it.
"Spin me round again and rub my eyes.
This can't be happening." - The shock of losing something you love in an instant. It is all over so fast.
"Trains and sewing machines.
All those years they were here first." - every day things (like trains and sewing machines) mean nothing, they are just objects, compared to the years that were spent with the person they love.
I have only just talked about the first part of the song, coz it would take forever to talk bout all the lyrics...
this song is amazing it describes the feeling of loss and heartbreak sooo well. "the sweeping insensitivity
of this still life"
its not just the lyrics either, the soft music and the lonely voice are full of sorrow and pain. | 31-03-2006 00:58 Dashboard_day | 19 posts

I've got to say, this is one of the stupidest things in the world. Everyone only knows this song because of the bloody OC. Does anyone actually know Imogen Heap outside of this song and outside of the O-fucking-C? :p. I love her and this song though, so it's all good . this song is really good. Everyone should go listen to frou frou now. She does great in everything though. | 10-04-2006 19:08 sarawuite | 7 posts
| This song is so fabulous, it is so simple wiht just vocals and a synth, and Imogen Heap shows such control as she sings note for note with the synth, amazing voice | 16-04-2006 23:43 piemaster3 | 61 posts

Everyone keeps asking what this song's about... I think it's about a breakup or something along those lines, something huge and emotionally damaging. This song is about everything splintering in that moment. It's about everything they did together being tied to some object or place, and she's remembering it all as he's trying to run the standard breakup lines by her and to convince her that he cares so he can leave. | 28-04-2006 22:22 Miss_Orlando | 217 posts

I love the lyric, but i don't like the rest.
I prefer the Goodnight and Go style instead of this electric-esque | 25-05-2006 08:30 Chikk012 | 2 posts

yeaa
i dont think this song is about love or anything
i think its about war and how bush reacted to it. well i mean no offense cuz i'm not american but i thought she was talking more about the suffering of the innocent civilians of iraq??? but i dun relli noe for sure.
[iWhere are we? What the hell is going on?
The dust has only just begun to fall,]
the first verse is sort of setting the scene of how destructive the war has been
[/iHide and seek.
Trains and sewing machines.
All those years they were here first.]
meaning (to me) all these years the iraqs have been calling this place they're home and now they're invaded.
[iOily marks appear on walls
Where pleasure moments hung before.
The takeover, the sweeping insensitivity of this
still life.]
the takeover of iraq.
[/iThey were here first ] - she repeats this a lot
[iRansom notes keep falling out your mouth.
Mid-sweet talk, newspaper word cut-outs.
Speak no feeling, no I dont believe you.
You don't care a bit. You don't care a bit.]
haha i noe this is a political comment.. but bush sweet talking about how the iraq war is combating terrorism and the whole weapons of mass destructions (which hasnt been found yet rite btw??? after all these years)
this is just what i think. any other ideaS?

OMG I love this song and
it's the best song from
Imogen Heap I think. I
don't hear like ANY instrument
in this song and it's just like
purely Imogen's voice.
Totally beautiful. I like
this part the best:
Mmhmm what you say
Mmhmm that you only meant well
Well of course you did... | 10-06-2006 03:20 piemaster3 | 61 posts

its such a beautiful song
i wonder who picks the OC soundtrack; its awesome!!
it makes me go all emotional and want to draw sad people; its no happy song, but i cant get enough of it!
btw this song is from when Tray and whats-his-name are fighting, and Marissa is there, and one of them hits Tray in the heat with something and he falls still, right?
