| Song lyrics |
I can't remember anything
Can't tell if this is true or dream
Deep down inside I feel to scream
This terrible silence stops with me
Now that the war is through with me
I'm waking up, I cannot see
That there's not much left of me
Nothing is real but pain now
Hold my breath as I wish for death
Oh please God, wake me
Back in the womb it's much too real
In pumps life that I must feel
But can't look forward to reveal
Look to the time when I'll live
Fed through the tube that sticks in me
Just like a wartime novelty
Tied to machines that make me be
Cut this life off from me
Hold my breath as I wish for death
Oh please God, wake me
Now the world is gone I'm just one
Oh God help me
Hold my breath as I wish for death
Oh please God, help me
Darkness
Imprisoning me
All that I see
Absolute horror
I cannot live
I cannot die
Trapped in myself
Body my holding cell
Landmine has taken my sight
Taken my speech
Taken my hearing
Taken my arms
Taken my legs
Taken my soul
Left me with life in hell

| Its a great song. Awfully similar to fade to black tho?... | 21-04-2004 15:29 Raven88 | 2,659 posts
| only a NOOOOOOB would refer to Fade To Black and One as the same song!!
That said, both are bloody fantastic. | 22-04-2004 00:41 the_BurnInAtOR | 3,204 posts
| i didnt say they were the same. but simmilar, undeniably. they start off with a VeRy similar arpegiated chord progression, both based around the same chord... have a solo before any vocals start up, both happen to be the albums softer songs(altho still heavy enough)... both talk about something rather miserable, thats alot more similarities than MANY songs have...
(arpegiated may not be the word im looking for there, but i think so.) | 22-04-2004 17:06 Blaze01 | 468 posts

| Greatest song ever!
As a Metallica fan I'm very disappointed in their latest album St. Anger! I think it's just nothing when you compare it to their old albums.
I prefer the "old" Metallica!! And I think I'm not the only one... | 19-05-2004 03:45 wiser | 109 posts

| the song is great even if it does sound like "fade to black" i like 2nd half where they change the whole tone of the song and hetfield has his little shouting fit.... great song | 19-05-2004 23:41 jsimms52 |

Bah, I never said it like, WAS fade to black, but there are undeniable similarities. I probobly said this, but... weve got, pretty much the same chords in a very similar progression at the start, with a solo a' la kirk, They are both somewhat depressing sort of songs... just, the whole arrangement of the 2 is quite similar, the changes in intensity, the whole bit... STILL both are their own song and both are GREAT | 22-07-2004 16:49 Moldonado | 25 posts

It's true they have the same structure, buth they're both two perfect songs. I like Metallica very much, but I can't say I'm a fan.
But I think One is one of their best songs. Maybe that sounds kinda noobish but I luuuuurve it !

| Cinderella was a good hair band!
I like Fade to Black more than One! I can play most of Fade to Black (Intro/Chorus/Verses/andOutro) on my electric.
