2 posts | The movie that the song is based off of is called "Johnny got his gun". Written and directed byDalton Trumbo in 1971. It is about an anerican soldier who loses his arms, legs, hearing, sight, and speech because of a landmine. If you actually listen to the lyrics, it is Hetfield's view on what that would be like. The amazing word usage in the lyrics actually gives off a very real feeling of true seclusion. "Body my holding cell". In which case has no overall parallel to "Fade to Black' which is about experiencing the overwhelmingness of depression and teen suicide. Both are amazing songs not just for their time, but for all time yet to come. Whether you are a fan or not, "One" is a song that everyone knows and will always think of when they hear the name "Metallica".>  > > |

Actully James got really touched by a book he read, don't know the name of that either but he made it to a song instead. The lyrics was written before the song was clear witch is pretty unusual to metallica. The drums during the "darkness, Imprisoning me" is meant to sound like guns firing. Sry for my bad english... |
