240 posts	Yeah, I got that, but what background did Metallica have for writing this song? That is kind of what I haven`t figured out yet. What I meant was, why did the band want to write about what One is really about? I know the background for some of their songs, but I haven`t come over anything about this one. The song is still fantastic, though.

It's about a person blown up by a landmine he has no face, he cant hear, speak, see or move anything but his head and all he can do is not it up and down slightly and breath. The docters think his brain is dead and see how long they can keep him alive little do they know he is in a world of darkness. "Darkness Imprisoning me All that I see Absolute horror I cannot live I cannot die Trapped in myself Body my holding cell." Since he can move his head slightly he does morse code with the movements. eventually a nurse realizes that the morse code is saying "kill me" and unplugs his life support. N e ways thats the outlin its actually a sad song if u understand its meaning.

What background does Metallica have for writing this song?? What kind of experience does the band have to write about war, death and all that One is really all about? Is it so hard to understand what I mean?

It refers to the protagonist of the book "Johnny got his gun" who was torn apart by a landmine in ww1.. and lies in the military hospital feeling what james sings.. The video rules as well.. as it contains sequences of the movie made of the book, btw it was Metallicas first video ever... WHat i love most about it, except from the excellent setup in general and the lyrics is Lars working on the kickdrums OFF THE CHAIN.. he's the best drummers this world has seen yet!!
