This is one of the greatest Metallica songs ever! Although the album itself isnt the greatest thing this song alone is worth having. The song is similar to Fade to black but really in meaning as they are both suicide songs.
Having said that Both songs rock!
Metallica 4 ever! |

The song is about a guy fighting some war, not sure witch it is but the living hell he's experienced became the lyrics...
Actully James got really touched by a book he read, don't know the name of that either but he made it to a song instead. The lyrics was written before the song was clear witch is pretty unusual to metallica.
The drums during the "darkness, Imprisoning me" is meant to sound like guns firing.
Sry for my bad english... |

Yeah, another of Metallica's vast selection of best songs. I played this with my band at the Remembrance day assembly at school. We kicked ass, too. |

hands down awesome song, metallica are no doubt THE BEST EVER and although their newish stuff isnt as good as the older stuff, STOP BAGGING IT OUT!! its still met, even if it isnt them at their best. they always will and always hav been the BEST metal band to ever live and their memory will definetly live long beyond our time. LONG LIVE METALLICA, you deserve to be commended with some sort of "best band ever" award, I LOVE YOU!!! |

THis song is great, it was ranked number 7 in the greatest guitar solos of all time in a poll, here: http://guitar.about.com/library/bl100greatest.htm
Master of puppets used to be number one, but was overtaken by Led Zeppelin. Who suck by the way. |

I love metallica! Especially this song and Fade to black! But I was dissapointed when St.Anger came out cause the old stuff is way better. The new stuf is not so powerfull it sucks!
Anyway hope their new album will be better
Metallica rocks(but not so hard as Aerosmith) |

This song has an amazing guitar solo near the end of the song. The video is very weird but makes perfect sense with One playing to it. |

The movie that the song is based off of is called "Johnny got his gun". Written and directed byDalton Trumbo in 1971. It is about an anerican soldier who loses his arms, legs, hearing, sight, and speech because of a landmine. If you actually listen to the lyrics, it is Hetfield's view on what that would be like. The amazing word usage in the lyrics actually gives off a very real feeling of true seclusion. "Body my holding cell". In which case has no overall parallel to "Fade to Black' which is about experiencing the overwhelmingness of depression and teen suicide. Both are amazing songs not just for their time, but for all time yet to come. Whether you are a fan or not, "One" is a song that everyone knows and will always think of when they hear the name "Metallica". |
