When I was a young boy,
My father took me into the city
To see a marching band.
He said, "Son when you grow up,
would you be the saviour of the broken, the beaten and the damned?"
He said "Will you defeat them,
your demons, and all the non believers, the plans that they have made?"
Because one day I'll leave you,
A phantom to lead you in the summer,
To join the black parade."
When I was a young boy,
My father took me into the city
To see a marching band.
He said, "Son when you grow up,
would you be the saviour of the broken, the beaten and the damned?"
Sometimes I get the feeling she's watching over me.
And other times I feel like I should go.
And through it all, the rise and fall, the bodies in the streets.
When you're gone we want you all to know.
We'll carry on,
We'll carry on
And though you're dead and gone believe me
Your memory will carry on
We'll carry on
And in my heart I can't contain it
The anthem won't explain it.
A woman sends you reeling from decimated dreams
Your misery and hate will kill us all.
So paint it black and take it back
Lets shout it loud and clear
Defiant to the end
We hear the call
To carry on
We'll carry on
Though you're dead and gone believe me
Your memory will carry on
We'll carry on
And though you're broken and defeated
Your weary widow marches
On and on we carry through the fears
Ooh oh ohhhh
Disappointed faces of your peers
Ooh oh ohhhh
Take a look at me cause I could not care at all
Do or die
You'll never make me
Because the world, will never take my heart
You can try, you'll never break me
You want it all, you wanna play this part
I won't explain or say I'm sorry
I'm unashamed, I'm gonna show my scar
Give a cheer, for all the broken
Listen here, because it's only you
I'm just a man, I'm not a hero
I'm just a boy, who's meant to sing this song
I'm just a man, I'm not a hero
I -- don't -- care
We'll carry on
We'll carry on
Though you're dead and gone believe me
Your memory will carry on
You'll carry on
And though you're broken and defeated
Your weary widow marches on
We'll carry on
We'll carry on
We'll carry on
We'll carry
We'll carry on
(Do or die, you'll never make me
Because the world, will never take my heart
You can try, you'll never break me
You want it all, you wanna play this part)

I just realized my last comment made it sound like Bullets wasn't a good album-it's actually my favorite out of the three. Welcome to the Black Parade isn't necessarily a bad song...but it's not as good as most people make it out to be.

vocal Ok, this is a bit of a shoutout to all the idiots that think MCR is emo.
THEY'RE NOT FUCKING EMO ANYMORE!!!!! [offtopic](Thank the Lord, the whole concept of emo is stupid. Hey, emos, chances are you know jack SHIT about pain. Oh and cutting your wrists and being all crybaby and dramatic only impresses people that don't have a thought process. Get over it, and stop acting like you know what pain is.[offtopic]
=D now that that's done and over with... Let's go on to people who don't get it.
the Black Parade CD is a story. I haven't heard all the songs on it, so I don't know what it's about particularly, but who gives a crap? That's what MCR wanted to do. Don't bash it please, beauty's in the eye of the beholder.
I personally think that Famous Last Words is waaaay better than WTTBP, but that's just me. WTTBP ain't bad at all.
Now, can all of you get lives and take MCR for what they are? Not the very best band of all time, but probably the best actively doing things right now, and making music that speaks to some but doesn't to others. Ok? Ok. Tyvm.
MCR should keep it up, I happen to love them and I get their music. It might not speak to me as much but I get it and love the sound.

vocal OK, I'll admit, I actually like this song. And although 'Famous Last Words' is better, the video isn't all that bad, nor is the song. When my mother is around and I'm watching Rage on a Saturday morning and a My Chemical Romance video comes on, I have two choices: walk out of the room or turn off the screen and sound until I think it's over. Even then I force myself to watch the video against my will. All you MCR haters, don't be angry at me just because I like the band; instead, convert yourself to love MCR like me. Listen to their music. Watch their videos. Buy their CD.

vocal very good song...
it's like the continue of bohemian raphsody (good song too)
same words, same rhythm and even same melody
I know we're all entitled to our opinions and all, but some of you are just harsh. Maybe that's the way this site works.. I don't know. Disappointing to see how people talk on here though. So much for thinking this was a place I could come to talk about music, instead it's just a bunch of crap talking and bad language. WAY TO REPRESENT PEOPLE!
I have to agree that it's not the best song on the album, but Dead! and Mama are my two favorites from it. I haven't been a fan from the beginning, but I do think they're talented. I have to admit that that all I could do was laugh to hear people saying that they're trying to sound like Queen and/or Pink FLOYD. Are you serious? Name ONE artist or band alike that hasn't sounded like some other band or artist at SOME point in their careers.
Leave people to their happy opinions of the bands they choose to like. I'm far from being a stupid person, JUST because I like MCR. They ARE talented...and um... I see that they're doing pretty good to not be sitting on a message board talking about how some music group is. They're out doing it and making millions. Sell outs? I think not. but they're doing their thing. How many of us can say that?
*and I'm sure now I'll get the comments of how much better off all you mcr haters are than the band is. Go ahead.. I'm waiting lol.

vocal well i am a huge fan of MCR and all, but this song is probably my least favorite on the album. not in any way am i dissing this song or album, but it isnt my favorite. i think this song is incredibly overplayed and everyone sings it at my school, and it just sort of annoys me sometimes. i do like this song, but mama and house of wolves and the sharpest lives are the best. and also, why does everyone trash-talk emos so badly? i just dont understand it. obviously everyone has problems and people deal with them different ways. just leave them alone. how would you like it if i trash talked preps or gangsters? yeah that;s what i thought. i dont because i don't judge people by their appearances.

vocal Hey, I'm from Israel.
I see always MTV and this song always shows.
since I'm from israel,
I didn't got the lyrics..
I mean.., the story behind them.
Don't laugh my writing..
I'ts only 'cuz I'm from Israel.
so..aamm..anyone can help me about the meaning of this song?
plz? I would sppraiset it.
the meaning of this song, is Gerard Way (the lead singer)'s view of death. The main character of this album, the patient, has one of his greatest memories as a parade that his father took him to when he was younger.
Gerard believes that death comes for you in your greatest memory. So, death came for the patient as the black parade, and this song is about his passing, and the black parade taking him away.
That said, i think this is a beautiful song, and I love Gerard's view on death, its really optomistic, and I absolutely agree with his view.
MCR isnt about pain, sorrow, depression, or "emo". Its about living your life to the fullest, and getting over these feelings. Yes, maybe some of the listeners are considered "emo" but not all..
MCR is my favorite band, they help me everyday. And I wear Abercrombie, and Hollister.. Not tight girl's jeans. You don't need to be emo or goth to get, and enjoy My Chem.

vocal I agree wiv csquared ur not a tin of soup so don't label ur self i for one love the most random music and i still love MCR. The album is gr8 and if you haven't heard it for ur own sake listen to it sleep and famous last words made me cry.
This song is.....epic. It can be described as its own genre...awesome!
Seriously, if there was an award for most "epic" song, this song would win it, hands down.
The way the song starts, the vocals the drums, the guitars, everything is perfectly connected in harmony! Not my favorite song, but I do recognize that it is one of the most powerful things to come from punk rock.

vocal This is truly awful.
MCR went from being amazing, original, creative, and edgy, to being a crowd-pleasing, copy-cat, unoriginal band.
This sounds no different at all from all the other "alternative" bands, which are really just pop bands pretending to be "depressed" or "hardcore".
Now, everyone thinks they're all "emo" or whatever because they listen to this one song. Well guess what? You're not "emo" MCR is not "emo" (nor have they ever been) and this music sounds like the pop music that everyone else on earth writes, giving people with no problems a chance to go home and mope about, pretending like listening to this song makes them have problems, and therefore, be "cool".

vocal to bellamuerte;
for one thing, mcr is NOT emo! they r rock/pop/punk. WHATEVER! do we really need to categorise music? if you like it, listen to it; if u hate it, don't.
i love mcr, and i have never cut my wrists, i HATE the term emo, no way am i depressed and i think that people who stereotype others simply because of the music they like are sadder then the people who pretend to be all dramatic and depressed to get attention.
yes, that kind of person IS sad. but there are people who are seriously depressed out there, who kill themselves because of that; and i don't think you're being fair to them.
mcr rock. you can hate them if you want, i don't care, but please don't try to categorise people who listen to them. that's just sad.
ok, rant over people who've read this, thank you for listening to me. i get really mad at people who talk like that.
