5 posts	I actually think that the way you interpet this song depends on your relationship with your father. I am extremely close to my dad, and still think it's a great song. I don't think of it as a dad leaving, I almost see it as a girl's dad always being there for her....like when she goes through a break-up. Just how I took it...but it's a grand song, but I expect no less from Johnny!

I'm sorry but aren't you all getting sick of being constantly portrayed as victims who need to be saved by big strong, sensitive men? As someone who comes from a really difficult family life myself, I find this song offensive. Its just another way women's misery is objectictified and made into something cute and sexy through the male gaze. "girls become lovers who turn into mothers" ???? are we in the ' 50's . I think girls can do alot more in their lives than become mothers and lovers. And that barely legal chick vamping in the video. it really disgusts me. " boys can be strong , they soldier on" So the hell can girls. Yes we should be treated well but not for the sake of living a life of service to men. JOhn mayer is describing a girl who's really hot but who he has trouble relating to because she comes from a messed up family. Sounds like he jsut wants to get laid, and figures that if the world werent' messed up, he would. maybe then he should be contributing to a solution rather than perpetuating the problem.

It's not about a guy saving a girl, it's about how much girls look up to their dads and how much girls mean to their fathers. This is one of my favorite songs ever.

"not so much my favorite." of course john is my most favorite musican and he won a grammy for this song... but i dont know... it just doesn't do it for me.

Nowhere close to his other classics like No Such Thing, Why Georgia, Clarity etc. The lyrics are pretty lame too. JM is definitely talented no doubt, but you expect more out of him.
