I wanna talk to you
Last time we talked Mr Smith you reduced me to tears
I promise you that won't happen again
Do I attract you?
Do I repulse you with my queasy smile?
Am I too dirty?
Am I too flirty?
Do I like what you like?
I got to be wholesome
I could be loathsome
Guess I'm a little bit shy
Why don't you like me?
Why don't you like me without making me try?
I tried to be like Grace Kelly (mmmm)
But all her looks were too sad (ahhh ahhh)
So I tried a little Freddie (mmm)
I've gone identity mad!
I could be brown
I could be blue
I could be violet sky
I could be hurtful
I could be purple
I could be anything you like
Gotta be green
Gotta be mean
Gotta be everything more
Why don't you like me?
Why don't you like me?
Why don't you walk out the door!
[Getting angry doesn't solve anything.]
How can I help ya
How can I help it
How can I help what you think?
Hello my baby
Hello my baby
Putting my life on my brink
Why don't you like me
Why don't you like me
Why don't you like yourself?
Should I bend over?
Should I look older just to be put on your shelf?
I tried to be like Grace Kelly (mmmm)
But all her looks were too sad (ahhh ahhh)
So I tried a little Freddie (mmm)
I've gone identity mad!
I could be brown
I could be blue
I could be violet sky
I could be hurtful
I could be purple
I could be anything you like
Gotta be green
Gotta be mean
Gotta be everything more
Why don't you like me?
Why don't you like me?
Walk out the door!
Say what you want to satisfy yourself
Hey!
But you only want what everybody else says you should want
you want
I could be brown
I could be blue
I could be violet sky
I could be hurtful
I could be purple
I could be anything you like
Gotta be green
Gotta be mean
Gotta be everything more
Why don't you like me?
Why don't you like me?
Walk out the door!
I could be brown
I could be blue
I could be violet sky
I could be hurtful
I could be purple
I could be anything you like
Gotta be green
Gotta be mean
Gotta be everything more
Why don't you like me?
Why don't you like me?
Walk out the door!
Oooh, oooh!
[Humphrey, we're leaving.]

"Just to set the record straight. Grace Kelly and Fred Astaire were a famous duo in their time. Considered the best TAP dancers in the world and often partnered up. Hence the tap dancing sound in the song.
So the song is definately about Fred Astaire."
Well, to set the record even straighter, Fred Astaire was actually often partnered with Ginger Rogers, not Grace Kelly. So the song is not definately about Fred Astaire- there's no real logic behind that. It makes more sense that he's talking about Freddie Mercury, for reasons other ppl have mentioned. Plus he sounds a lot like him in the whole song. And it seems to be about his identity issues and trying different personas- so reallly it could be about anyone and the 'characters' he's trying don't have to necessarily relate to each other.

vocal from an article in a magazing:
A meeting during which record company execs "spent an hour telling me how I should change to be more commercial" inspired "grace kelly," the lead single from his debut album Life in Cartoon motion...(why don't you like me without making me try?)...why not sing about, say, audrey hepburn? "i think grace kelly was a rebel," he says.
....whos falsetto often draws comparision with fredy mercury, "at least they're comparing me to somebody i like," says mika.
some fun facts--
he gave a demo to simon cowell when he was 13 but simon said that he shouldn't bother and he just recently bumped into him and simon said "oh, well done!"
To fend off depression, Mika wrote "Grace Kelly," a hilariously bold operatic spoof set to a technicolor pop backdrop. "It was a fuck-off song to the people I was working with," he explains. "That's where the line 'Shall I bend over/Shall I look older,/Just to be put on your shelf' comes from. I was so angry. That company had every resource except a soul." The infectious pomp and catchy chorus of "Grace Kelly" became a benchmark for the kind of music he wanted to make. "You can't be afraid to stand out," he says. "If no one was going to take a punt on it, then so be it. I would do it myself." He found himself in Miami, recording demos with anyone who was interested, in any studio he could get for free. Eventually the right deal came along, and the result is this startlingly appealing album

vocal The song Grace Kelly actually does make sense if you have listened to him speak about it in interviews. Its about how one record company wanted him to be like everyone else with his music and Mika didn't want to, so he wrote this song as an "insult" to them.

vocal GREAT SONG!
and fyi, Fred Astaire and Grace Kelly were NOT partners.....that would be Gene Kelly. Who was a guy and in no way related to Princess Grace. Nice try though.

vocal I used to really like this song....WHEN IT FIRST CAME OUT!!!....It actually came out in november 2006 but it flopped really bad so Mika re-released it in january/february 2007. Most people just didnt know this(hence why it flopped) so people became obsessed with it when it was released the second time ... but by then all its good stuff had gone from me (like new songs usually do after a month or two)
I jut can't stand him anymore he's trying waaaay to hard. Listening to his voice just seriously makes me wanna puke !!!! haha lol.
