| Song lyrics |
Ah, look at all the lonely people
Ah, look at all the lonely people
Eleanor Rigby, picks up the rice
in the church where a wedding has been
Lives in a dream
Waits at the window, wearing the face
that she keeps in a jar by the door
Who is it for
All the lonely people
Where do they all come from?
All the lonely people
Where do they all belong?
Father McKenzie, writing the words
of a sermon that no one will hear
No one comes near
Look at him working, darning his socks
in the night when there's nobody there
What does he care
All the lonely people
Where do they all come from?
All the lonely people
Where do they all belong?
Ah, look at all the lonely people
Ah, look at all the lonely people
Eleanor Rigby, died in the church
and was buried along with her name
Nobody came
Father McKenzie, wiping the dirt
from his hands as he walks from the grave
No one was saved
All the lonely people
Where do they all come from?
All the lonely people
Where do they all belong?

Brilliant. Shits all over any songs that Lennon has written (in my opinion) apart from I AM THE WALRUS. | 16-01-2005 21:34 littlelegs | 59 posts

I think it's about two people of the same church, the father and some woman who helps, it could be a nun. And that they're lonely each other but never had the courage to talk with each other.
Anyway I surely love this song as much as Blackbird, my two favourite Beatles songs. | 08-02-2005 07:18 PoisonIvy77R | 6 posts
| I am disappointed that I didn't get to use this song in my final paper. I did get to submit the questions, but never really had enough to go much further than explaining the idea. Maybe the future will change that. I enjoyed reading the comments made in the post. Congrats to all of you on your good taste. | 08-02-2005 21:02 ababii24 | 6 posts

cool song. I like both versions theirs and thrice's. I think that the lyrics are amazing. Poetic even. My favorite lines are " Father McKenzie, wiping the dirt from his hands as he walks from the grave.No-one was saved." Awesome.

Great Song! I like it, sounds like they are interpreting the world going through a stage of depression... Kind of like the world I am currently leaving... I this song, along with 'Yesterday' is helping me realise I am not alone in my hour of darkness! The Beatles have inspired me to be a better person... And to the people who are saying the Beatles are all talent-less stoners if that is all they are then too bad! I am still following in all their foot steps! I don't care if I get locked up! They are the greatest and I want the world to know!!! Rock on Beatles! My poetry, songs and music are all similar to the Beatles style (although I am Australian and a female) The Beatles are my life!!! BYE! | 06-07-2005 07:52 ribosom | 323 posts

This song is very deep. It makes me think about all
the people at school that are put down and ignored and have no friends because of a stupid reason and makes me hate spoiled bratty teens. It has a spine-tingling feel to it that you can't get from other artists. | 08-01-2006 04:57 k8ieliz92 | 8 posts

I love this one. Um, about that eleanor. In the "Free as a bird" video you'll see Paul walks on the church mark and there is a grave there. It says "Eleanor Rigby". This is from Liverpool. You get it all? (Ps: Paul McCartney is dead.) | 05-04-2006 02:38 Simpsonfan4u | 10 posts
