Honestly I can't understand why some people dislike this song! It's absolutely beautiful, & if it's a little dark, so be it! Dark works convey stronger messages. Why do people have to pick on singers & songwriters who actually have the guts to confront these issues? If the issue is ignored, it gets worse. If, however, you have the nerve to deal with it, it may get a bit better. People who deal with these things should be praised, not punished.

I love all of Brad's songs and when I heard this one I already had a favorite song... But, out goes Paint Me A Birmingham and in comes Whiskey Lullaby! hehe! I know all the words and every time it comes on I stop what I'm doing and SING! I'm singing it right now too! My favorite line would have to be... hmmm... 'The rumors spread, but nobody knew how much she blamed herself, for years and years' that was hard! I love the WHOLE song SOOOO much! It's so sad though. I haven't always been into country come to think of it, my friend got me into it because she loves it and every time I'd go anywhere with her the radio would be on to KASE101, which is the country radio station I now listen to in Austin, Texas. So ya, now I'm hooked and can't give it up! hehe! Okay! Later! ~heidi~ ¤§lipper¤ |

I lvoe this song and hate it at the same time...11 months ago last week my ex boyfriend committed suicide and left a note, which the last lines said "Tell (my name), the I love her and I died for that love." He was a very depressed person when we started dating and I tried to help him all I could, but as time went on he kept treating me worse and worse until I began to realize that I was starting to be depressed too. He always told me if I left he would kill himself, and so I stayed for 4 more months than I should have and finally I had to get out, he took it so bad and started drinking and I tried to help him all I could as a friend. He would call be every morning and night and cry for me to come back and then start saying he would kill himself. This went on for 2 months and his friends told me that he told them he was just trying to mess with my head, then one morning he didn't call. I didn't think anything of it, and then a mutual friend called and told me. Anyhow....I blame myself to this day and still think about committing suicide, but I know how much it hurt everyone around him and I can't do it do everyone I know. So this song reaches me on a personal level and I love the words, the melody, everything! It is so beautiful, but at times it just gets me to thinking about it and how its my fault and that I should just do the same. |

| Oh please, yes, this song is great, but if you people honestly think its dark, you must be pretty sheltered, ive seen and hear way darker things than this, this song is tamer than a pussy cat. And not only is it not dark, but its real sketchy too, it doesnt even give any detail or anything, it cant possibly be dark and terrible in any way possible |

| Dark & Flat-out Violent are 2 totally different things. If you can't tell the difference, keep off the keyboard, please. This song is dark. It's not a bloodbath, but then, it doesn't need to be, now, does it? I'm a poet. Don't tangle with me when it comes to the way words are strung in verse. I'm sorry, but I just had to say something. |

| Well what can i say...im going through a bad break up right now with a guy i have been with for the past 6 years. It bites because i was actually riding in my friends car last night when this song came out...i sat and listened to it while the tears ran down my face....made me realize many things....especially because suicide had been crossing my mind for a bit ...im not thinking about it anymore thank GOD..but i must say when a song can get to you so good like it did to me, that means that song was made very well..Grrrr-eat song!! |

| What scares me most about this song is that I've BEEN there. I've been that down, but at the time was below legal drinking age. I understand & can relate to this song, & that scares me. Still, I love it. |

Reading many of the replies in this discussion makes me wonder what you all were thinking about. People are talking about how this song is about the tragedy of suicide when the tragedy is the fact that the individuals used alcohol to numb themselves into oblivion. They never gave it a chance to work. They were both in somuch pain that they could not deal with the reality of their lives. It is sad to think that two people loved each other so much that they died alone.
Bravo to Mr. Paisley. A fine creation.
Bravo to Mrs Kraus. Your vocals are beautiful |

this is a very great song and im not glorifing suicide this songs greatness comes from how wonderfully brad's and alison's voice harmonize.........this song is very touching to me. recently one of my cousins commited suicide for just about the same reason that it talks about in the song. scuicide is a very awful thing to think about and it comes close to making me cry every time i hear this song but i keep on listening to it just because i love how harmonic the song is. |

I loved this song the second i heard it. I never really was into Brad Paisley. I liked his songs and thought they were good but one night i heard this song and 2 mins later i was walkin into Wal Mart to go buy the cd. Im just confused a little. Did the girl really love him or did she just feel guilty about his death? Cuz if she loved him why did she break it off with him? If anyone knows the answer respond back. THanks |
