I think maybe abusive parents or an older sibling or maybe(doubtfully)a friend who didn't play by the rules or was in jail alot and the song is about kelly trying to be strong in the persons eyes but she slowy starts to realize "hey I don't want my life to be like theirs" and she doesn't ever want to do that cause she's afraid to never be in so much pain that that person is in. When the song goes to the climax when she sings 'I watched you die' I think she was saying that she saw this persn slowy but surely break down and give up on everything. Thats why she wants to forget caused she ashamed that she had to live through that and shes afraid that someone else would do that to her if she loves anyone else. She's just VERY cautionous in this song about how she is so afraid to follow in that persons steps. Thats what I think and I love the song.

This song really stirs up a lot of emotion. i love the line "my heart can't possibly break when it wasn't even whole to start with"
