28 posts	I met them just before this CD came out- very nice guys. I hate how everyone likes them now. They aren't a unique band anymore, they sold themselves out. No one really even knows about their older cds... so everyone that likes this song- why don't you appreciate the artist for who they are, rather than how they have one good song?

66 posts	To sweetafton, I have all their cds and they are still unique. You have to understand not everyone is into the same stuff. I mean I buy cds for one song and that is usually the only one I like. I brought this cd for the song 'Meant to live', but I loved the whole cd and ended up buying their DVD. It introduced me to a song on one of their other cds and I ended up buying all their cds. I found out that I love their modern and unique style from ' the legend of chin' to 'the beautiful letdown'. Who knows maybe others did the same thing.

5 posts	Yes! Finally, a band that isn't singing about crap! Switchfoot so inspires me. Their songs are about wanting to live and they aren't pointless. The one thing that does upset me about Switchfoot is that they're labeled as a christian rock group. I mean, I'm Jewish and that makes me feel left out like I'm not meant to enjoy thier music. When switchfoot sings this song, they say "[You] were meant to live for so much more." They say you, as in adressing the people who are listening to his song. Notice, he doesn't say just Christians are meant to live for so much more. Please explain.

29 posts	rhythm melody instruments lyrics vocal Hey gottalovegrnday: the band is admittedly Christian, and the song goes, "we were meant to live for so much more", which obviously means that we as mankind are missing something, that we're meant to live for "more than arguments and failed attempts to fly" (drugs or whatever). That "everything inside screams for second life" - for another shot, 'cause we feel like somehow as a human race we've got it wrong. Its anybody's guess what that "something" or Someone, that we're ignorant of, is. The later songs in the album talk about how he's got his hands on "Redemption"s side (Remember Jesus was pierced on His side?) whose scars are bigger than these douts of mine and then he cries out Spirit, take me up in arms with you ("24"). As they say, their albums from the first to the last track, tell a story. Its easy to notice how this story progresses from "meant to live" to the last track. God bless Switchfoot. God bless you.

4,053 posts	wait, gottalovegrnday, whaT?? why would you feel left out..?? their music was meant to appeal to everyone..i saw an interview of them, and there like, yeh, we don't want people to feel left out..its music for the heart, its for everyone..and although i believe at one time they called themselves a Christian band, they've definitely dropped the label, because their beliefs are that MUSIC cannot be Christian, and it's something that only applies to people..that's not to say that they don't write about there faith..

4,053 posts	the song itself (thinking back on another interview) was written in third person..the verse talks about a guy struggling in life, and its supposed to reflect how Jon had felt..he's basically writing about himself..the song's about being meant to live for more than material things, to sort of break away from that mindset, and stop wondering why we're in existence WE were meant to live..everyone was meant to live, regardless of faith..."have we lost ourselves" like saying..is mankind doomed?? well, maybe, but there's still a chance to find ourselves and carry on..another amazing song by Switchfoot

(im not saying I do, but u get my point) ANYWAYS, i love this song, but i think dare you to move is a million times better. switchfoot is a pretty good band all together though.

1,695 posts	oh one more thing musicrox123--u also said "this is a christian song" and when u say that it makes it seem like nobody else is allowed to enjoy it. i agree with that one person who said they were jewish and felt left out in a way, cuz why wouldnt u feel left out with people like u claiming its just for christians? just cuz they are christian doesnt mean that they have to sing about christianity.
