The Truth Review

Last month Cherish released the follow-up to 2006’s Unappreciated. You may remember the girls from the popular snap record, “Do It To It,” when they set the summer ablaze and had everyone Westside-walkin’ it out.

Now the girls have returned on The Truth, with a more mature look and sound, but not straying so far from the beautiful harmonies that made fans love them from the start. The first single, “Killa,” leaked a while back and appeared on the Step Up 2: The Streets. I must admit, at first, I was a little afraid for the girls, but the song started to get some major radio and video play. Then the deal was sealed with their second single, “Amnesia.” Cherish had an official release date and was going to see the light of day.

Although you can tell that the girls have matured a bit musically, they have not strayed too far from what popularized them. You can still find those down South, A-Town-driven grooves (”Framed Out,” “I Ain’t Trippin’,” etc.). But save a few of those track, the album is pretty much a strong sophomore effort for the girls. The LP is cohesive and doesn’t boast many guest apperances, just Yung Joc on the first single. I do wish that they’d branched out a little more and tapped some different producers and writers for the album though. I think they pretty much stuck to their guns with the traditional producers. Stand-out tracks include the second single, “Amnesia,” for which I love the vocal arrangement for, “Notice,” and the Bryan-Michael Cox-produced, “Only One.”
