Claude François was born on February 1, 1939 in Ismailia, Egypt. In 1956, the François left Egypt because Nasser nationalised the Suez Canal. Claude married Janet Woollacott on November 5, 1960. His father, Aimé François, died on March 19, 1961. The following year, Claude recorded "Nabout Twist" under the moniker "KOKO". He also recorded his first success, under his real name, a cover of the Everly Brothers' "Made To Love" titled "Belles Belles Belles". In 1964, Claude settled at number 46, Exelmans blvd. in Paris and bought Dannemois windmill. The same year, he made his first summer tour with the Gam's, Monty & Le Petit Prince, and a concert at Paris' Olympia in September 1964. In December 1966, Claude was back at the Olympia with his dancers, the "Claudettes". In 1967, he met Isabelle Forêt, a model who became his second wife. The same year, he created the record label Flèche and recorded "Comme D'Habitude" ("My Way"). Claude's first son, Claude Jr., was born on July 8, 1968. His second son, Marc, was born on November 15, 1969. In November 1969, Claude made his last Olympia concert.

In 1970, he fell from the stage in Marseille and was injured in a car accident. In 1972, he created the magazine "Podium" and was the host of "Avec Le Coeur" (it was also the name of one song) TV show. He also gave concerts in Paris. The following year, Dannemois windmill was on fire. In January 1974, Claude said that his musical career was over but changed his mind in June. The same year, he created the magazine "Absolu" and was charged with tax evasion. In August 1975, Claude was injured in an attack at London Hilton Hotel, and in September, his helicopter crashed. In 1976, Claude and his two sons spent their holiday in Finland. He played in "La Bande A Cloclo" on TV and played in the film "Drôle De Zèbre". In 1977, he met Kathaleen Jones, an American girl, and was attacked in his car as he was going to Dannemois. In 1978, Claude started his international career with an English album. On February 24, he gave his last concert in Lyon. His last TV show was recorded on March 10. The following day was the day of the tragedy : Claude died electrocuted in his bathroom on March 11, 1978 in Paris. He was 39.
