Clepsydra - Biography

last update : 04-03-2012 11:10
Clepsydra is probably the BEST band that no one knows about.
If you love Fish-era Marillion or IQ, then you will love Clepsydra.
If you are a lover of Progressive Music, then ALL of their releases are an absolute must!
Clepsydra is an excellent Neo-Progressive Rock band from Italian Switzerland. Many aspects feature in their beautiful music, mainly the outstanding voice of Aluisio Magini, which fits perfectly on top of a well structured instrumentation. His voice brings sometimes the music close to rock opera.

The style on "More Grains of Sand" is also very typical of the melodic rock produced by British bands since the '80s (ex: Marillion, Pendragon, IQ). But this band is less boring than Marilion and make a music less repetitive than Pendragon....and sometimes, it rocks. Respect to the early Marillion, they have probably better melodies. And even with the sound similarities, they don't copy.
On their third album "Fears" Clepsydra's main influence is still very much the Fish-era Marillion. This is a fantastic and very powerful album with great vocals, a very tight sound with the bass and the dynamic drumming and some stunning guitar playing.

The band was originally formed by:
Lele Hofmann : guitars & keyboards
Phil Hubert: keyboards
Pietro Duca: drums and percussions
Andy Thommen: bass and bass pedals
Aluisio Maggini: vocals
