I always thought it was a kind of "anti-war" song (what with the "soldier's decission" and the gun, and whatnot), but the fact that his wife died during the album recording puts a entirely new spin on the song.
It works on many levels, I guess, as good music should, it clings to each person in a particular way.

no, its not an anti war song, i'll be joining the marines when i get out of college and this song blew me away. there's a big difference between a song that complains about war and a song that depicts it and this song depicts soldiers' emotions incredibly. nobody likes war, especially not those who have to fight them, and from what i've heard the things the fighters miss the most is the people they left behind. in a nutshell, this song is F****** amazing | | 26-08-2007 21:21 flubber_nuts |
