I see a lotta folks are curious as to what’s this song about. It is indeed a beautiful, haunting melody, albeit sinister, and yet tragic. Sinister? Heck yeah.
From what I can tell, it’s a song about a huge breach in trust between two folks (either two most excellent friends, or father/son). The one singing the song/telling the story is telling the other how sorry they are for seriously disappointing them in such a big way. The storyteller is a bad ass in serious trouble with the law. He’s armed and dangerous, barricaded inside a building. Deep down, he knows he won’t get out alive, but he’ll go down trying. He has to. His friend/son is counting on him. If the storyteller dies, His friend/son will not trust another soul again.
The storyteller left this story/note for his friend/son. The storyteller never made it out alive.
I stand to be corrected, but that is my interpretation of the song. You folks think I’m close or waay off?
Still a very beautiful song.

i related it to a tragic death....or him loosing a friend....a friend who lost trust in everyone and didnt want to deal...so he left maybe or something of the sort |
