Comus - Biography

Forming in 1971, Comus's unnerving and totally unique debit First Utterance, portrays murder, rape, execution, and confinement to a mental hospital, in a bitterly dark musical masterpiece. Alas, the album was not received well critically, sales flopped, and the band broke up, and given an opportunity from their label to release another album, reformed in 1974, and made their second album, To Keep From Crying, aiming for a more conventional rock sound to woo the mainstream crowd. This, too, flopped, and until the '00s, the band separated for good.
Since Comus's legacy, First Utterance has received as large of a cult following as the film Carnival of Souls. The Swedish metal band Opeth has made direct references to lyrics in the album in one of their album titles and song names. The experimental band Current 93 even made a cover of Diana. First edition vinyls of First Utterance go for quite a large sum of money.
Due to the increased popularity, Comus has since reformed yet again and continue to perform live today.
