Dave Matthews Band biography
The Dave Matthews Band formed in Charlottesville, Virginia, in early 1991, when vocalist/guitarist Dave Matthews decided to put some songs he had written on tape. Instead of simply recording himself with a guitar, he opted to bring in some instrumental help to give his musical ideas more depth. Dave found assistance in drummer Carter Beauford and saxophonist LeRoi Moore, who were both accomplished jazz musicians in the local Charlottesville music scene. This must have been a left-over. I can't believe this song made it to such a great album. The lyrics are pathetic. "It was so hot outside, you could fry an egg"... Where did he write this? In kindergarten??? Lousy. Only the drumming and the sax gives the song a bit of an edge. »

@Juliie : As far as I understand it (and from what I've been told) this song is about the theft of the land from the Native Americans by the white people. Very courageous to choose that as a subject for a song!! »

One of the 1st DMB-song I heard, and I was sold... Absolutely amazing. And I love the fact that Alanis is singing on this song as well. Couldn't imagine them working together AT ALL!!! »
