Never really said too much
Afraid it wouldn't be enough
Just try to keep my spirits up
When there's no point in grieving
Doesn't matter anyway
Words could never make me stay
Words will never take my place
When you know I'm leaving
Try to leave a light on when I'm gone
Something I rely on to get home
One I can feel at night
A naked light, a fire to keep me warm
Try to leave a light on when I'm gone
Even in the daylight, shine on
And when it's late at night you can look inside
You won't feel so alone
You know we've been down that road
What seems a thousand times before
My back to a closing door and my eyes to the seasons
That roll out underneath my heels
And you don't know how bad it feels
To leave the only one that I have ever believed in
Try to leave a light on when I'm gone
Something I rely on to get home
One I can feel at night
A naked light, a fire to keep me warm
Try to leave a light on when I'm gone
Even in the daylight, shine on
And when it's late at night you can look inside
You won't feel so alone, ooh, yeah
Sometimes it feels like we've run out of luck
When the signal keeps on breaking up
When the wires cross in my brain
You'll start my heart again
When I come along, yeah
Try to leave a light on when I'm gone
Something I rely on to get home
One I can feel at night
A naked light, a fire to keep me warm
Try to leave a light on when I'm gone
Even in the daylight, shine on
And when it's late at night you can look inside
You won't feel so alone
Try to leave a light on when I'm gone
Even in the daylight, shine on
And when it's late at night you can look inside
You won't feel so alone
At first I wasn't too caught by the lyrics, but the way he sings them... wow. He really brings them to life with every fiber of his voice and being... Good job, Cooker!

vocal Love the piano and how dark it is, even though it's about light. It makes for a nice contrast and almost seems more hopeful with the dark aspects. If this is a taste of what's to come, I am very, very excited.

vocal I am in love with this sound. Who said he couldn't transition into the "Rock" scene after idol? This is amazing. Just think, if we love "Light On," what will his full album do to us? ::happy dance::

vocal I don't understand the lyrics and this song is to slow. The melody drags and the song seems like it goes on for 5 or more minutes. I don't like it.

vocal Ok, What exactly does the light represent. I just don't get it. I also find the song just very boring, drawn out and loooooooooong. It seems at about 1.5 minutes into the song i feel as if I have been listening for a very long time. Honestly I haven't even gotten through the whole song. Im not seeing great reviews for it either. Not terrible, but nothing great. Those that review it were pro or con during Idol and to me they don't count. JMO>
Well the light probably symbolizes love or hope. The melody and lyrics are mildly repetitive but I think the melody has enough momentum to carry the song to the end. DC changes it up a bit on the endings, too, and the song gets to the climax midway so it doesn't drag for me. It's under 4 minutes. And his voice is still incredible.
* offtopic : I'm not sure why you've been able to rate the song as zero more than once because it shouldn't show up at all if you put no stars, and you should only be able to rate it once anyway. Can you put at least a single star on your next post so that the rating isn't artificially dragged down any more.

vocal Agreed with the above poster...I just can't really get into it. You wouldn't beleive how many times I listened to it, and then clicked it off...I doubt it will grow on me, and if it will, it won't be for long.

vocal This song is amazing!! David Cook is amazing!! His voice is just beyond beautiful. This is an incredibly hard song to sing and he just does it with the simplest of ease. Its dark and yet not too edgy so it can be mainstream. I also think it represents him well. Though I'm not too keen on the fact that he didn't write any of it and would rather his first single have been a song that he wrote. It doesn't change the fact that this is a beautiful song and DC does impeccable justice to it.

vocal I think it's a great song. Although it sometimes sounds really boring but David Cook's voice make this song way more exciting. Way to go David!!!

vocal Know I'm late to this one, but deployment will do that to you. Had to comment at "dogbonz". At 39 y/o I bet you never had to leave the stability and security of a loved one and your home for a prolonged period. It's a beautiful song about keeping the "fire" of a relationship and the security of home alive intil he returns.

vocal All you people that hate this song are crazy!!!! This song is like so awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! David Cook is like really awesome. This is my favorite song by him besides, lie, come back to me, kiss on the neck, and time of my life. And if you hate this song, you really are nuts. How could anyone hate this song? Ok I'm gonna put my friend Jordan on to tell you what she thinks.
Ok people you don't get it. This song is awesome! I do admit it gets a little boring after you've heard like a million times but it's still awesome. And he deserved to win American Idol. Not David Archuleta but he's cool too. Oh and did you hear what Cook did to Archie during the Summer Tour? Well somebody threw a thong on stage so Cook picked it up and threw it at Archie. He has a sense of humpr, too. We love David Cook!!!!!!!! This is a sad song though. And his brother died. Ok sorry for using up so much room!
