Life is still good to Dierks Bentley. Concerts are still drawing crowds, CDs are still selling and he has a brand-new daughter to fuss over.
Evalynn Day Bentley, born in October 2008, will probably have an impact on his music, Dierks said in an interview on Thursday.
“Everything has an impact, at some point,” he said. “All my life experiences wind up on a record. She’s doing fine and it’s an unbelievable, wonderful experience.”
Yesterday, he released his latest album for Capitol Nashville, “Feel that Fire.”
The title track, currently No. 4 on the Billboard country music singles chart, “sums up the message of the album,” he said. “Live permanently in the present, wherever you are.”
That also sums up how the album was produced, he said.
“It took two years to make,” he said. “That’s the longest amount of time I’ve spent recording an album. We were patient and took our time.”
Dierks and Brad Paisley tour together this year. It will include concerts in San Francisco and Sacramento, Dierks said. Dates and venues will be announced later.
If past is prologue, his new album should do well.
Technically, his first album, “Don’t Leave Me in Love,” was released in 2001 on the small Dangling Rope label. It went nowhere.
After Capitol Nashville signed him, it became nothing but “up” for him.
His 2003 self-titled debut album for Capitol reached the No. 4 spot on the Billboard album chart and produced three hit singles, “What Was I Thinkin’” that reached No. 1; “My Last Name,” which made it to a more modest No. 17 and “How am I Doin’”, which made it to No. 4.
In a 2003 chat, Dierks told me he felt it was a mistake to release “My Last Name.” He felt it was the wrong choice for a follow-up single.
His second Capitol album, “Modern Day Drifter,” produced two No. 1 singles, “Come a Little Closer” and “Settle for a Slowdown,” as well as the No. 3 “Lot of Leavin’ Left to Do.”
His 2006 album, “Long Trip Alone,” enjoyed for Top 10 singles. Two, Every Mile a Memory” and “Free and Easy” reached No. 1. “Trying to Stop Your Leaving” reached No. 5 and “Long Trip Alone,” which settled in at No. 10.
In 2008, he released a Greatest Hits album that went to No. 2. |
