Dommin - Biography

last update : 14-09-2012 19:49
"Dommin is the voice of the brokenhearted," explains Kristofer Dommin. On their Roadrunner Records debut, Love Is Gone, out in February of 2010, Dommin delves into complex relationships, damaged psyches and much more.

At the center of their sound is the enigmatic frontman, also the band's guitarist and principal songwriter, who sums up the band's message best, "It's about finding love, losing love and personal reflection. It is also Kristofer's unique and compelling voice that drives the power and passion of every word he sings. Bassist Billy James offers a more direct take, "He's using his experiences, his voice and our influences to make something really special."

The origins of Dommin can be traced back to 2000, when Kristofer formed the band in East Valley of Los Angeles. He added Billy James to the fold as keyboardist two years later and the band's line-up began to take shape as James eventually switched to bass when the pair found Konstantine in 2006. The last ingredient in Dommin's sonic stew came in the form of drummer Cameron Morris, who joined in 2008.

A year before the band's debut, they spent 2009 touring the United States opening for many bands including a week on The Warped Tour. In 2010, the band's first single "My Heart, Your Hands" was featured as iTunes' 'Song of The Week.' The release coincided with the band's first trip to Europe with two back to back tours. They returned to Europe that Summer to perform at The Rock Am Ring/Rock Im Park festivals in Germany. They also opened the Main Stage on the final day of the Download Festival in the United Kingdom. Dommin received nominations as Best New Band and Best New International Artist at both of UK's Metal Hammer Awards and Kerrang Awards respectively. In 2011, the band played the Soundwave Festival in Australia and have spent the remainder of the year writing for their follow up album.

Given the relatable lyrics, it's easy to see why disaffected youth, the lovelorn or even the average Jane or Joe will be magnetically attracted to Dommin. They speak about a topic that affects us all and the music acts as a unifying force for those who flock to music when life knocks them down. Kristofer concludes, "The words and music are there for those who need to know that there is someone out there who feels the same."
