AboutThe Doobie Brothers are an American rock band from San Jose, California. The group has sold more than 40 million albums worldwide. They have been active for five decades, with their greatest success in the 1970s and early 80s. The group's current lineup consists of founding members Tom Johnston (guitars, vocals) and Patrick Simmons (guitars, vocals), veteran member Michael McDonald (keyboards, vocals), longtime member John McFee (guitars, pedal steel, violin, backing vocals), and touring musicians including John Cowan (bass, vocals), Bill Payne (keyboards), Marc Russo (saxophones), Ed Toth (drums), and Marc Quiñones (percussion).
The original sound of the Doobie Brothers Came from Tom Johnston and his mainstream rock and roll, combined with some country and R&B mixed in. When Johnston left the group in 1975 and was replaced by Michael McDonald who then brought a bit of soul into the mix for the group. The group had several big hits with McDonald, including What a Fool Believe, One Step Closer, Minute by Minute and several others, until the band went their separate ways after a Farewell Tour in 1982. The band would get back together many times over the next several years, playing special charity events, then finally got back together in 1987 with Tom Johnston rejoining the group.
In 2019, Michael rejoined the group and began planning for a 50th Anniversary Tour, which the band is currently on. A special part of this tour...the Doobie Brothers will be inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall of Fame Class of 2020!
