Song lyrics
I Reflection

Cunning, baffling, powerful
Been beaten to a pulp
Vigorous, irresistable
Sick and tired and laid low
Dominating, invincible
Black-out, loss of control
Overwhelming, unquenchable
I'm powerless, have to let go

I can't escape it
It leaves me frail and worn
Can no longer take it
Senses tattered and torn

Hopeless surrender
Obsession's got me beat
Losing the will to live
Admitting complete defeat

Fatal descent
Spinning around
I've gone too far
To turn back round

Desperate attempt
Stop the progression
At any length
Lift this obsession

Crawling to my glass prison
A place where no one knows
My secret lonely world begins

So much safer here
A place where I can go
To forget about my daily sins

Life here in my glass prison
A place I once called home
Fall in nocturnal bliss again

Chasing a long lost friend
I no longer can control
Just waiting for this hopelessness to end

II Restoration

(Run) fast from the wreckage of the past
A shattered glass prison wall behind me
(Fight) past walking through the ashes
A distant oasis before me

(Cry) desperate crawling on my knees
Begging God to please stop the insanity
(Help me) I'm trying to believe
Stop wallowing in my own self pity

We've been waiting for you my friend
The writing's been on the wall
All it takes is a little faith
You know you're the same as us all

Help me
I can't break out this prison all alone
Save me
I'm drowning and I'm hopeless on my own
Heal me
I can't restore my sanity alone

(Enter the door)
Desperate
(Fighting no more)
Help me restore
(To my sanity)
At this temple of hope

(I need to learn)
Teach me how
(Sorrow to burn)
Help me return
(To humanity)
I'll be fearless and thorough
Then enter this temple of hope

Believe
(Transcend the pain)
Living the live
(Humility)
Opened my eyes
(This new odyssey)
Of rigorous honesty

(Serenity)
I never knew
(Soundness of mind)
Helped me to find
(Courage the change
All the things that I can)

We'll help you perform this miracle
But you must set your past free
You dug the hole, but you can't bury your soul
Open your mind and you will see

Help me
I can't break out this prison all alone
Save me
I'm drowning and I'm hopeless on my own
Heal me
I can't restore my sanity alone

III Revelation

Way off in the distance I saw the door
I tried to open
I tried forcing with all of my will and still
The door wouldn't open

Unable to trust in my faith
I turned and walked away
I looked around, felt a chill in the air
Took my will and turned it over

The glass prison which once held me is now gone
A long lost fortress
Armed only with liberty
And the key of my willingness

Fell down on my knees and prayed
Thy will be done
I turned around, saw a light shining through
The door was wide open

actually it's this one, The Glass Prison
but I also like a lot Pull Me Under, Overture 1928, Beyond This Life, Erotomania, The Dance of Eternity, and many others

I have a band, and I didn't know DT until our drummer arrived, he's cousin of the bassist, and he listens a lot to progressive bands (Rush, DT, Pink Floyd), and that's how I got hooked with DT

travis barker being better than mike portnoy is one of the most ignorant things i've read here

barker is a decent punk rock drummer but he could never play songs dream theater songs like erotomania

ive heard some solos by him and it was pratically only some snare rolls plus he always stayed in 4/4...

www.mikeportnoy.com .... and see by yourself

......

btw 5/5 for glass prison

My favorite song on "Train of Thought" was "Endless Sacrifice", because I believed that one had the most meaning, and it came at a time where I could relate to the lyrics.. The whole album is great though, and this song is clearly the superior track on this album..

This song, ROCKS. And, someone mentioned This Dying Soul? Well, you notice how that song is similar to this one? That's because they are related. The Glass Prison is about the first 3 steps in the Alcohol Anon. recovery process. This Dying Soul is about steps 4 and 5. I can't wait for Dream Theater to finish up this cycle of songs.

Everything about this song rules. The implied symbolism, lyrics, vocals, ESPECIALLY guitars on this one. Petrucci really (IMO) is the best guitarist out there. Those really fast scales, they never cease to amaze me. He's inspiring to learn guitar when I have more time.

A Glass Prison was the first Dream Theater song i ever heard, this song got me hooked on DT. Although to do this day i have heard songs that i like more(i wouldn't say better, when your relating DT songs to eachother, its hard to say one is better then the other, there just all simply brilliant) this song deserves tons of recognition. And i'll back up what Navarone was saying about The Glass Prison and This Dying Soul, about a year ago i was comparing them and the lyrics cause they sounded like they fit in toghether and i was pretty sure it was what Navarone said about it, so i looked it up on www.mikeportnoy.com and an interview with Mike Portnoy that i was reading confirmed this. Did you know that Mike Portnoy used to be an alcholic, which is why he finds these two songs so sacred? Another thing, Travis Barker is good, but not in any way is he better then Mike Portnoy, just like MagikCoyote said, i've heard (me being a drummer too) a couple alright solo's by barker (nothing special) and all he really does is do some snare roles and a few rolls across the toms and such. Mike Portnoy is one of the best drummers i've ever heard. FishMunky - i've never heard Liquid Tension Experiment myself, i've heard there wicked awesome though, and i was looking for one of there cds at my local future shop (i don't pirate music) but i couldn't find any, so i think i'll order one, anyone know what a good LTE album is?

First Dream Theater song I ever heard was "The Root of All Evil."

After hearing that, I went out and bought [iScenes from a Memory[/i] through Octavarium. I've also got Live at Budokan.

Anyway, this is a pretty brilliant song. 5's across.
